Leptospirosis remains a serious public-health threat in 𝐌𝐞𝐭𝐫𝐨 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐥𝐚 following weeks of flooding. As of early September 2026, 𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐍𝐂𝐑 𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐞𝐱𝐜𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐞𝐩𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐬, with 𝟕𝟐% 𝐨𝐟 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐝 𝐌𝐞𝐭𝐫𝐨 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐥𝐚 𝐜𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐟𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞.

Leptospirosis can become severe and potentially cause 𝐤𝐢𝐝𝐧𝐞𝐲 𝐟𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐮𝐫𝐞, 𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬, 𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡.

🛡️ 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐛𝐞 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐡𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐳𝐞𝐝.

Avoid wading in floodwater whenever possible. If exposure is unavoidable, wear protective boots and cover wounds. If you have recently been exposed to floodwater—even without a visible wound—𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐥𝐭 𝐚 𝐝𝐨𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐨𝐫 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐭𝐥𝐲 to determine whether post-exposure prophylaxis is appropriate. 𝐃𝐨 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟-𝐦𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐝𝐨𝐱𝐲𝐜𝐲𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞.

Hindi lang sa baha nakukuha ang Leptospirosis, maaari rin itong makuha sa maruming lupa, putik, at iba pang lugar na may latak ng ihi ng daga. Basahin ang post na ito para malaman ang iba't ibang posibleng pinagmumulan ng sakit at maiwasan ang panganib nito.

Kung lumusong sa baha o naexpose sa alinman sa mga nabanggit sa post, agad na magtungo sa health center o YAKAP clinic, may sintomas man o wala. Tumawag sa National Emergency Hotline 911 kapag kailangan ng tulong.
