In the quiet moments when presence matters most, the Rainbow Room at the National Children’s Hospital stands as a symbol of compassion, dignity, and hope in pediatric palliative care. Initiated by Dr. Lannie T. Fofue, this vision arose from the need to provide children and their families with a dedicated, peaceful space for end-of-life care, away from the limitations of crowded wards and shared environments. Through the collaborative efforts and shared vision of healthcare leaders, international partners such as the Canuck Place,Two Worlds Cancer Collaboration, and the Three Lights Foundation, the Rainbow Room was officially opened on March 18, 2026 as the first of its kind in the Philippines. More than a physical space, it represents a transformative step toward family-centered, humane care: honoring the most vulnerable moments of a child’s journey and offering a model of compassion for institutions across resource-limited settings.
The program was marked by meaningful moments, including the unveiling of the official marker, the blessing led by Fr. Peter Gañon, and the signing of the Deed of Donation between the National Children’s Hospital and the Three Lights Foundation. The opening ceremony gathered around 100 attendees from across the healthcare and palliative care community including the Office of the Mayor and Vice Mayor, the Philippine Cancer Center, the Philippine Society of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, the Department of Health, the Kythe Foundation, and the Three Lights Foundation.
