PVMA, stakeholders unite for mass spay and neuter, vaccination drive in Bulacan
More than 150 dogs and cats benefited from a mass spay and castration program held on June 23 at the Provincial Veterinary Office inside the Bulacan Capitol Compound, as veterinarians, government agencies, industry partners, and animal welfare advocates came together to promote responsible pet ownership and rabies prevention.
The activity was spearheaded by the Philippine Veterinary Medical Association, in cooperation with the PVMA Central Luzon Chapter and the PRC Regional Office III, with support from the Provincial Government of Bulacan, veterinary companies, and other stakeholders. Held as part of the PRC's 53rd Anniversary celebration, the event also featured on-site Professional Identification Card renewal services provided by the PRC Regional Office III.
The campaign seeks to address one of the root causes of rabies transmission by promoting responsible pet population management while advancing the country's goal of eliminating rabies as a public health threat. The activity also reinforced the PVMA's nationwide advocacy, "A Rabies-Free Future Starts With Me," which calls on pet owners, communities, and stakeholders to become active partners in rabies prevention through responsible pet ownership, regular vaccination, and humane population control measures.
The activity also highlighted the vital role of veterinarians in protecting public health through the One Health approach, which recognizes the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health. Through initiatives such as rabies prevention, population management, and community education, veterinarians help create safer and healthier communities for all.
The PVMA emphasizes that partnerships among the veterinary profession, local government units, private industry, and animal welfare groups are essential in achieving a healthier and safer future for both animals and people.
