Swallowing is something many of us take for granted—until it becomes difficult.

Dysphagia, or difficulty swallowing, can affect people of all ages but is commonly seen after stroke and in certain neurological or medical conditions. Early recognition and intervention can help improve swallowing safety, nutrition, hydration, and quality of life.

If you or your loved one experiences difficulty swallowing, consult a Speech-Language Pathologist for a comprehensive swallowing evaluation.

Poster 3 | Aphasia: Myths vs. Facts
There are many misconceptions about aphasia, and these myths can make recovery even more challenging for individuals and their families.
🧠 The truth is: Aphasia is a language disorder—not a loss of intelligence. People with aphasia often know exactly what they want to say but may have difficulty expressing or understanding language.
By replacing myths with facts, we can become more patient, more supportive, and better communication partners.
💙 Remember: ✔️ Aphasia affects language, not intelligence. ✔️ Recovery is possible and can continue with therapy, practice, and support. ✔️ Family members and friends play a vital role in helping a loved one regain confidence and reconnect with others.
Every conversation matters. Every effort counts. Together, we can create a world where individuals with aphasia feel heard, understood, and valued.
🌻 Hope Speaks Learning Corner Learning together. Supporting one another. One conversation at a time.

How Families Can Help Someone with Aphasia
Sometimes, the greatest support doesn't come from finding the perfect words—it comes from listening with patience, showing kindness, and simply being present. 💙
If your loved one has aphasia, remember: 🌱 Give them time to express themselves. 🌱 Use simple, clear language. 🌱 Listen to understand, not just to respond. 🌱 Celebrate every word, every gesture, and every small success.
Recovery is a journey, and families play an important role every step of the way.
Together, we can create a safe and encouraging environment where every person feels heard, valued, and understood.
❤️ Communication may be harder, but connection is always possible.

Understanding Aphasia: You Are Not Alone

🧠 Did you know? After a stroke or brain injury, some people have difficulty speaking, understanding, reading, or writing—not because they have lost their intelligence, but because the parts of the brain responsible for language have been affected.

Aphasia changes how a person communicates, but it does not define who they are.
Understanding aphasia is the first step toward providing the patience, compassion, and support that every person deserves.

❤️ Remember: Aphasia affects language—not intelligence. With understanding, therapy, and family support, meaningful communication is still possible.

At Hope Speaks Therapy Center, we are committed to empowering individuals with aphasia and their families through compassionate, evidence-based care.
