The UP-PGH Adult Hematology Division underscores the importance of heightened awareness and evidence-based management of Thalassemia in Pregnancy.

Thalassemia presents unique challenges during pregnancy and requires a multidisciplinary approach to optimize both maternal and fetal outcomes.

🩸 Key clinical considerations include:
🔹 Genetic counselling and screening
🔹 Early recognition of maternal complications such as anemia, iron overload, thrombosis risk, and cardiac dysfunction
🔹 Appropriate prenatal surveillance, hematologic monitoring, and transfusion strategies when indicated
🔹 Multidisciplinary care
