I’ve decided na ayoko lang maging solo exhibition ito.

I see it as a communal gathering. A coming together of people and communities that are close to my heart and Robert’s, and who share our values of love, service, compassion, and community.

So I invited 15 organizations and communities to become part of the exhibition, each connected to one of the 15 frames of the works.

The communities come together not because we are the same, but because we care about something bigger than ourselves.

Different communities.
Different stories.
One gathering.

TAHANAN NATIN ANG ISA’T ISA.
We are each other’s home.

MASK. MASKARA. PERSONA.

Ang dami nating mukha.

Hindi lang dahil nagbabago tayo.

Kundi dahil buong buhay natin, tinuturuan tayong magsuot ng maskara.

Be good.

Be nice.

Be successful.

Be strong.

Be normal.

Be somebody.

At habang tumatagal, nakakalimutan na natin kung alin ang mukha natin at alin ang maskara.

Persona.

From the Latin persona—the mask worn by an actor.

Nakakatawa, no?

We call it our “personality.”

Pero minsan, baka costume lang pala.

The version of ourselves that learned how to survive.

The version that learned how to be loved.

The version that learned what the world wanted us to be.

The obedient child.

The achiever.

The strong one.

The funny one.

The spiritual one.

The successful one.

The wounded one.

Even the “healed” one.

Yes.

Pati pagiging healed, puwedeng maging maskara.

Pati pagiging spiritual.

Pati pagiging enlightened.

Pati ang pagsasabing,

“I am okay.”

when somewhere deep inside,

non, je ne vais pas bien.

Hindi ako okay.

And perhaps there is nothing wrong with that.

Because the mask was not the enemy.

The mask protected us.

It helped us enter rooms where our naked truth was not yet welcome.

It helped us survive childhood.

Relationships.

Families.

Society.

Expectations.

Trauma.

Loss.

It helped us become someone before we knew who we really were.

La maschera.

The mask.

But there comes a moment when the mask becomes too heavy.

Kapag hindi mo na alam kung sino ang nagsasalita—

ikaw ba?

O yung character na matagal mo nang ginagampanan?

Chi sono?

Who am I?

Not the name.

Not the profession.

Not the achievements.

Not the diagnosis.

Not the relationship.

Not the role.

Not even the story.

Sino ako kapag walang nakakakita?

Sino ako kapag wala akong kailangang patunayan?

Sino ako kapag wala akong kailangang maging?

Kapag wala nang audience.

Wala nang applause.

Wala nang likes.

Wala nang kailangang i-impress.

Wala nang kailangang i-save.

Wala nang kailangang i-heal.

Just—

presenza.

Presence.

Présence.

Presensya.

At doon ko napapansin—

maybe authenticity is not about finding another, better persona.

It is about becoming quiet enough to notice the one underneath all the personas.

And maybe even that “one underneath” is not something fixed.

Maybe I am not a finished identity.

Maybe I am devenir.

Becoming.

Diventare.

Constantly changing.

Dissolving.

Returning.

Again and again.

Like light passing through different colors.

Like water taking the shape of whatever vessel receives it.

Like life itself.

So ngayon, kapag napapansin kong may maskara akong suot—

I don’t immediately take it off.

I look at it.

I thank it.

Merci.

Thank you for protecting me.

Thank you for helping me survive.

Thank you for helping me become who I thought I needed to be.

And then—

slowly—

lascia andare.

Let it go.

Not violently.

Not dramatically.

Just—

ciao.

Goodbye.

Because perhaps the deepest freedom is not becoming someone new.

It is no longer needing to perform who you think you are.

Niente da dimostrare.

Nothing to prove.

Nothing to defend.

Nothing to become.

Just this breath.

This body.

This moment.

This strange, beautiful, unfinished being—

senza maschera.

Without a mask.

And maybe—

finally—

eccomi.

Here I am.

Birds have always been very significant in my life. 🐦

When Robert was still alive, I told him,

“Pag wala ka na, magparamdam ka through birds, ha? Yun yung gusto kong sign na nandiyan yung presence ng love mo—through birds.”

So whenever I travel, lagi akong naghihintay or naghahanap ng birds.

And most often than not, biglang may lumalapit na birds sa akin.

I don’t know how to explain it.

But for me, it is very powerful.

It feels like a living presence.

A reminder of the living love of Robert.
a love that continues to exist beyond the physical body.

Through these birds, I feel the essence of his love for me,
and for all the people he loved in this life.

Buhay na pag-ibig.

Living love.

And whenever a bird comes close,
I pause.

I look.
And I remember.
Love is still here. 🐦❤️

For 15 years, the vGiB Love Project has quietly served communities through Van Gogh is Bipolar.

It began inside our little sanctuary—offering free programs on the Art & Science of Well-Being to people ready to heal, learn, reconnect, and empower themselves.

It has always been sustained by vGiB itself.

Food becomes nourishment.
Nourishment becomes service.
Service becomes love in action.

No grants.
No sponsorships.
No obligation.

Just a simple belief:

when something good is given to us, we can pass it forward.

In 2025, we began opening the circle wider.

The Love Project started moving beyond the walls of vGiB—toward communities that need nourishment, presence, creativity, and opportunities for well-being.

Especially children and communities often left at the margins.

And now, my current exhibition,

THE SACRED WHOLENESS OF BEING,

becomes part of that journey.

These artworks may hang on gallery walls, but their meaning does not have to end there.

Art can become a bridge.

A bridge between privilege and access.
Between creativity and healing.
Between those who have and those who need.
Between one human being and another.

This exhibition is therefore not only about my paintings.

It is also about what art can do after we leave the gallery.

What happens when creativity becomes nourishment?

What happens when nourishment reaches someone who may need it most?

Because this is what vGiB has always been about:

Food as nourishment.
Education as empowerment.
Presence as dignity.
Art as a language.
Love as action.

The Love Project is the heart and soul of vGiB.

And now, that heart continues to beat beyond its walls.

May what we create together become something another child can feel.

Salamat po sa Buhay na Pag-ibig. 🤍

TAHANAN NATIN ANG ISA’T ISA.
We are each other’s home.
