MYTH: HPV vaccination encourages sexual activity.
FACT: This is FALSE.
Extensive research from around the world has consistently shown that receiving the HPV vaccine does not lead to earlier or increased sexual activity or risky sexual behavior. The HPV vaccine is recommended because it protects against the types of human papillomavirus (HPV) that cause most cervical cancers, as well as several other HPV-related cancers.
The best time to receive the vaccine is before exposure to HPV, which is why it is routinely recommended for girls and boys aged 9–14 years.
