Felt safety is an internal belief essential for mental health and well-being, facilitating emotional processing and learning.

When individuals feel unsafe, it can trigger survival instincts that hinder engagement. Trauma can distort perceptions of safety, requiring consistency and emotional validation to restore well-being.

In workplaces, felt safety enhances communication and performance, while it is crucial for children's development.

The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) aims to enhance felt safety through filtered music that improves emotional regulation and social engagement, particularly for those with trauma or anxiety. Delivered via headphones, SSP focuses on physiological regulation and requires monitoring for varying reactions. Overall, felt safety, influenced by relational support and predictability, is vital for effective emotional healing.

Our mental health can be greatly affected by the environmental factors around us, especially when we are already vulnerable due to inherited physiological factors such as genetics, as explained by the Diathesis–Stress Model.

Political and economic conditions in our country can also influence many aspects of our lives, including our emotional and psychological well-being.

Let us tune in to the conversation, “What is Happening to Our Leaders?” featuring Dr. Honey Carandang and Dr. Chris Carandang, as they discuss the impact of the political climate on mental health.

This aligns with several principles and/or theories in Clinical Psychology and Industrial - Organizational Psychology, Trauma and Family Systems Theory:

* In a dysfunctional environment, healthy boundaries can be labeled “cold,” “selfish,” or “defiant.”
* Emotional regulation can look “detached” to people who are used to chaos.
* Assertiveness may be treated as aggression in systems built around control or avoidance.
* A person refusing to participate in unhealthy dynamics often becomes the identified “problem” because systems tend to resist change.

This is related to concepts like:

* Homeostasis — groups unconsciously try to maintain familiar patterns, even unhealthy ones.
* Scapegoating — tension gets projected onto one person.
* Double Bind — contradictory expectations make healthy responses seem wrong.
* Gaslighting — accurate perceptions are reframed as irrational.

A simple example:
In a workplace where overwork is normalized, the employee with balanced boundaries may be viewed as uncommitted. In a family where emotional volatility is standard, the calm person may be accused of “not caring.”

Context matters enormously when interpreting behavior. Symptoms are not just properties of individuals; they can also be reactions to systems.

Creating secure environments is essential for promoting children’s safety and wellbeing. A truly safe environment supports children physically, emotionally, and socially, allowing them to grow, learn, and develop with confidence.

**Physical safety** focuses on protecting children from harm, injury, abuse, neglect, and unsafe conditions. This includes maintaining safe spaces, supervising children appropriately, implementing clear safety procedures, and ensuring that adults act responsibly and respectfully at all times. Children should feel protected from violence, accidents, and any form of physical danger.

**Emotional safety** involves creating a caring and supportive atmosphere where children feel accepted, listened to, and valued. When children feel emotionally secure, they are more likely to express their feelings, ask for help, and build healthy self-esteem. Adults play an important role by showing empathy, encouragement, patience, and respect, while also responding appropriately to children’s concerns and emotions.

**Social safety** means helping children feel included, respected, and connected to others. It involves protecting them from bullying, discrimination, exploitation, peer pressure, and exposure to harmful or inappropriate content. Encouraging positive relationships, teamwork, kindness, and respectful communication helps children develop a strong sense of belonging and trust within their community.

By promoting physical, emotional, and social safety together, caregivers, educators, and communities can create environments where children feel secure, respected, and empowered to thrive.

PsychCore Health and Wellness Consultancy Services (PsychCore) is currently experiencing difficulty in sourcing licensed and experienced Occupational Therapists and Speech-Language Pathologists (or Speech Therapists). As part of our contingency plan, we have decided to partner with a newly established therapy center in Pampanga. We will be conducting an onsite meeting with their team during their upcoming Open House.

We would like to inform our clients and patients about this development.

At PsychCore, we remain committed to growth, innovation, and adaptability in response to the evolving needs of our community. We ensure that all our actions align with professional and ethical standards, guided by evidence - based practices—especially in light of the continuing impact of the recent pandemic. This commitment extends not only to our systems but also to our professionals and staff.

Our Administrator sincerely apologizes for the delay in addressing this matter, which is largely due to the scarcity of these specialized professionals in the country.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support.
