Dimpling on the buttocks is a highly common cosmetic concern characterized by depressions, craters, or an uneven "orange-peel" texture on the skin's surface. While frequently misidentified purely as excess fat, dimpling is actually caused by structural and anatomical factors beneath the skin. Advanced fat grafting procedures like a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) or a hip dip fat transfer offer highly effective, natural solutions to smooth out these imperfections by restructuring the area from the inside out.
Understanding Buttock Dimpling
True dimpling on the buttocks is primarily driven by three underlying structural factors:
1. Tethered Fibrous Bands (Cellulite)
Beneath the skin lies a network of tough, connective tissue strands called fibrous septa. These bands anchor your skin to the deeper muscle tissue. When fat deposits push upward against the skin while these rigid bands pull downward, it creates a puckered, dimpled indentation.
2. Natural Skeletal Anatomy (Hip Dips)
Inward curves on the sides of the pelvis, known as hip dips or violin hips, occur naturally due to the spacing between the hip bone and the femur. This is an anatomical bone structure, not a defect, but it manifests as large, hollow dimples on the lateral sides of the buttocks.
3. Skin Laxity and Volume Loss
As the body ages, it naturally loses collagen, elastin, and localized subcutaneous fat. When volume decreases, the skin sags and drapes over those internal fibrous bands, making pre-existing dimples look significantly deeper and more pronounced.
The post-op (after) image was taken within like 2 weeks of the procedure. It was not the final result yet. It would still keep improving for so many months, depending on the body’s response. The after image shows residual bruising and, probably, remaining swelling. Bruising and swelling go away eventually.
