In complex pelvic and acetabular surgery, adequate surgical exposure is fundamental to accurate reduction, safe fixation, and reproducible outcomes.

Inviting senior residents and practicing surgeons to join us for the 3rd Pelvis & Acetabulum Cadaveric Course on November 15, 2026, at the UP College of Medicine Dualan Anatomy Laboratory Complex, featuring our distinguished international faculty:

Prof. Takeshi Sawaguchi
🇯🇵 Japan

Prof. Apipop Kritsaneephaiboon
🇹🇭 Thailand

This focused cadaveric course provides hands-on surgical training, direct faculty interaction, and practical application of anatomical principles, with emphasis on surgical exposures and reduction techniques for pelvic and acetabular injuries.

Participants will have the opportunity to refine their understanding of relevant surgical anatomy, develop safe and effective approaches, and apply reduction techniques in a realistic operative setting.

OSTEOPOROSIS is a condition wherein the density of bone is significantly reduced. This happens because BONE IS NOT A STATIC ORGAN. Bone plays a significant part in the regulation of minerals and electrolytes in the body, while also being its biggest calcium and phosphate bank. Bone tissue is constantly being broken down (“bone resorption”} and remade (“bone formation”) in a complex microscopic cycle involving thousands of human cells and several hormones.
OSTEOPOROSIS happens when bone formation cannot keep up with bone resorption. This may be due to several factors, like age (65 and older), menopause in women, heavy smoking and alcohol intake, other medical conditions like goiter and diabetes, poor nutrition and chronic medication use (especially steroids).
OSTEOPOROSIS increases the risk for fragility fractures, and it is estimated that 50% of women and 20% of men WORLDWIDE may experience a fragility fracture at least once in their life. Fragility hip fractures are particularly devastating, requiring major surgery and – if left untreated – may lead to death, disability and significantly reduced quality of life.
To know your risk for osteoporosis and understand your risk for fragility fractures, consult a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon, geriatrician or rheumatologist.

Fragility hip fractures are one of the most common and most devastating injuries among the elderly (age 60 and above). Globally, up to 3 million fragility hip fractures may occur every year, with this number estimated to increase by 6 million by 2050. If not promptly treated, these injuries share very similar complication rates (death, disability and diminished quality of life) with heart attack and stroke.
Most fragility hip fractures are treated surgically, ideally within 2-3 days of injury, with the goal of treatment being to enable the patient to walk as soon as the day after surgery. This reduces the risk of complications, such as pneumonia, bedsores, and deep vein thrombosis (blood clots in the leg veins, which may lead to stroke, hear attack or pulmonary embolism).
If you have an elderly family member with a recent fall event who complains of a painful hip or groin and is unable to stand or walk, please seek immediate consultation at your nearest hospital for proper evaluation by a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon.
