Su***de affects people of all ages and backgrounds, but the latest data show that some groups face a greater burden than others.

In the Philippines, more than 80% of su***de deaths are among men, while around 42% occur among young people aged 15โ€“29 years. Evidence suggests that social norms, stigma around help-seeking, and limited access to timely mental health care can make it harder for people to get the support they need.

Understanding who is most affected can help shape more targeted prevention efforts, from promoting life skills and emotional well-being among young people to strengthening community-based mental health services, early identification, and access to care.

If you or someone you know needs support, contact the National Center for Mental Health (NCMH) Crisis Hotline at 1553 or 0919 057 1553.

Strengthening our commitment to emergency preparedness and high-quality patient care, Sorsogon Medical Mission Group Hospital and Health Services Cooperative (SMMGHHSC) conducted an Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Training for Healthcare Providers, based on the 2025 American Heart Association (AHA) Guidelines.

The training was conducted through an online platform on August 8โ€“9, 2026, followed by an in-person session on August 22, 2026 at the SMMGHHSC Conference Hall, bringing together physicians and nurses from various hospital units.

The program was facilitated by WePump Careers Training, with ๐˜ฟ๐™ง. ๐™๐™š๐™™ ๐™€๐™จ๐™œ๐™ช๐™š๐™ง๐™ง๐™–, renowned wilderness and expedition physician, serving as the resource speaker. ๐Ÿ•Š Our deepest condolences to the family, colleagues, and loved ones of Nurse Kelvin.

It is with profound sadness that we mourn the passing of Nurse Kelvin, a fellow nurse and member of the PNA Samar Chapter who lost his life while in the line of duty.

Nurse Kelvin was serving as a Department of Health (DOH) Nurse under the Nurse Deployment Program. He had just completed a Measles-Rubella-Supplementary Immunization Activity (MR-SIA) in Barangay Canhawan, Catbalogan, where he and his team helped deliver the DOHโ€™s vaccination program to children in the community.

After fulfilling his duty, Nurse Kelvin and his companions proceeded to a small port and waited for their boat ride home to Catbalogan. While resting on a bench at a waiting shed, a concrete slab from the structure suddenly collapsed, trapping him beneath the debris. Despite the immediate efforts of his companions to revive him, he tragically could not be saved.

He served wholeheartedly. He went where he was needed, bringing care and protection to the communities he served. His final moments came not only as a nurse doing his duty, but as a public servant who had just finished caring for others.

May we remember Nurse Kelvin for his dedication, compassion, and service to the Filipino people.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, colleagues, and everyone who had the privilege of working alongside him. May they be given strength and comfort during this difficult time.

May his memory and service live on. ๐Ÿ•Š

Rest in peace, Nurse Kelvin. Thank you for your service. ๐Ÿค
