Promoting a cleaner, safer, and well-managed healing environment!

Continuing our ongoing ward class series, the QI-IPC-PS Unit teamed up with Public Health Unit HEPO III Mr. AJ Tabamo and staff from our unit to conduct another informative session today at the FamMed Ward and Medical Wards 2A and 2B.

During the visit, our team discussed essential infection control practices, focusing on hospital visiting hours guidelines to help manage crowd control and minimize infection risks, proper hospital waste segregation complete with a practical demonstration, and the critical importance of hand hygiene.

Through continuous education and collaboration, we remain dedicated to fostering a safe and healthy environment for our patients, visitors, and healthcare staff!

Continuing our commitment to a safer and cleaner hospital environment!

Our team, together with Public Health Unit HEPO III Mr. AJ Tabamo and staff from the QI-IPC-PS Unit, conducted another informative ward class focusing on PROPER HOSPITAL WASTE SEGREGATION, complete with a practical demonstration. During the session, we also reminded everyone about our hospital visiting hours guidelines to help manage crowd control and minimize infection risks for our patients and staff.

Together, through proper waste management and mindful practices, we continue to uphold a healthy and secure healing space for everyone at Caraga Regional Hospital!

Day 2 of the Waste Audit ♻️🏥

The second day of the Waste Audit culminated in a meaningful discussion with Dr. Gotinga and the Bantoxics Team, together with representatives from the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) Regional and National Offices and Healthcare Without Harm.

The team discussed the initial evaluation of the hospital’s waste segregation practices, together with the EFMS Department staff, headed by Engr. Fasal, and the IPC team, headed by Dra. Luz Ruth Egay, along with her dedicated staff.

A productive collaboration toward strengthening proper healthcare waste management, promoting environmental sustainability, and ensuring safer healthcare practices. 🌱💚

The Waste Audit conducted by BANToxics Philippines, the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB), and the Healthcare without Harm, aimed to assess the types and quantities of waste generated at Caraga Regional Hospital (CRH), as well as current practices in waste handling, segregation, recycling, treatment, and disposal.

The Engineering and Facilities Management Section (EFMS), Colorado Cleaners, and QIIPCPSU Team actively participated in two phases: Phase 1 – weighing, recording, and sorting plastics from non-plastics, and Phase 2 – plastics segregation and final weighing.

The audit serves as a valuable baseline for identifying gaps and opportunities for improvement in CRH’s waste management system. More importantly, the results should guide the hospital in determining what specific practices need to be changed or strengthened to reduce environmental and health risks and promote more effective waste reduction, segregation, recycling, treatment, and disposal.

SIMC Benchmarking at CRH

The QIIPCPS Unit of Caraga Regional Hospital (CRH) successfully welcomed the benchmarking team from Siargao Island Medical Center (SIMC) in an activity aimed at sharing best practices, strengthening quality improvement initiatives, and learning strategies that can further enhance hospital systems and patient care.

SIMC was proudly represented by Ms. Jyxel Alexia Cabilao and Mr. Christian Joy Lopez. Knowledge, experiences, and best practices were shared by the QIIPCPS staff, headed by Dra. Luz Ruth Egay, together with the PHU staff, headed by Dra. Flora Mae Asilo.

This benchmarking activity highlights the value of collaboration, knowledge exchange, and shared learning among healthcare institutions. It also reflects CRH’s continued commitment under the able leadership of Dr. Cheryl A. Gotinga, our Medical Center Chief, to continuous improvement, patient safety, quality healthcare, and excellence in service delivery. 💙🏥

Successful Pet-Catching Training 🐾

The Training on Proper Pet Catching was successfully conducted today by our City Veterinary Office staff, headed by our Assitant Veterinary Officer Dr. Maribel L. Zerda, DVM.

The training was actively participated in by the staff of the EFMS Department. This meaningful activity was made possible through the initiative and support of the QIIPCPS Unit, headed by Dra. Luz Ruth Almeda.

The training aims to strengthen the knowledge and skills of our staff in the safe and proper handling and catching of stray animals within the hospital premises, helping promote a safer and more secure environment for both our healthcare workers and the animals.

It was indeed a productive and hands-on learning experience for everyone! 🐶🐱👏

The Patient Safety Committee convened headed by Dr. Lina Macalintal with active representation from the HR, PHU, PSMO, I-MISS, Nursing, Pharmacy, OPCEN, EFMS and NDS to discuss on committee reconstitution with the proposed inclusion of the Clinical Departments and the activities for the upcoming Patient Safety Day Celebration on September among others. This is an important step toward fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.

By coming together to review concerns, identify risks, and develop effective solutions, we work toward one shared goal: providing safer, higher-quality care for every patient. Because patient safety is not just a responsibility—it’s a commitment we uphold together.

Kudos to the Quality Improvement- Infection Prevention and Control- Patient Safety Unit with the effort of our Quality Improvement-Patient Safety Officer, Mr. Lucky Olvis, and, our Administrative Assistant, JR Eupena, for facilitating this timely meeting amidst the activities of the hospital week.
