The Eastern Visayas Medical Center (EVMC) issues this statement to address the circulating reports regarding the hospital’s water supply.
The water supply issue is not recent. It has existed since EVMC’s transfer to the Bagacay site—beginning with the turnover of the Maternal and Child Building in 2016, followed by its initial transfer in April 2017 and full transfer in May 2017, the Outpatient Department (OPD) in September 2017, and the Main Building in 2018, culminating in the full transfer of the entire hospital within the same year. Although the issue has existed for years, significant actions to address it only began in 2024.
Since then, EVMC has made substantial improvements. As of 2025, the hospital has increased its water storage capacity to approximately 998 cubic meters, representing a threefold increase compared to previous years due to different multiple water sources, including the local water concessionaire, shallow and deep wells, and rainwater harvesting systems.
However, water storage alone cannot fully resolve the issue. A stable and sufficient supply from the water concessionaire remains essential. The hospital requires at least six (6) hours of water distribution twice daily, with a minimum pressure of 15 psi, to adequately meet operational demands.
It is therefore not fair to attribute the issue solely to hospital management. While EVMC has taken proactive steps to strengthen its internal water systems, what urgently needs to be improved is PrimeWater’s distribution supply, as a stable and adequate external supply is essential to fully meet the hospital’s operational needs.

EVMC has significantly enhanced its water storage capacity to approximately 998 cubic meters in 2025, marking a TRIPLE INCREASE compared to previous years. This improvement is supported by multiple water sources, including local water concessionaire, shallow and deep wells, and rainwater harvesting systems with proper filtration and chlorination.
Despite these developments, intermittent water shortages may still occur due to the increasing patient load and hospital operations, as well as the limited and variable supply from the local water concessionaire- PRIMEWATER.
Rest assured that further enhancement of water storage capacity and facility expansion are integral components of the Hospital’s ongoing infrastructure development and rehabilitation programs.

On January 30, 2026, Eastern Visayas Medical Center (EVMC) proudly celebrates the academic and professional journey of its Fellows and Residents as they formally concluded their Fellowship and Residency Training Program. This momentous occasion celebrated not only their completion of rigorous medical training but also their growth as competent medical public servants.
The graduation ceremony commenced with a Eucharistic Celebration officiated by Rev. Fr. Charles Vincent Wayne C. Avelino, setting a solemn and reflective tone for the event. The program proper began with a welcome message delivered by Dr. Joseph Michael A. Jaro, Medical Center Chief II, followed by an inspiring and insightful keynote message from Dr. Jonathan Moses C. Jadloc.
The formal presentation of graduates was led by Dr. Susana Sylvana S. Merida, Chief Training Officer. This was followed by the certification spearheaded by Dr. Jenny Lind S. Lesiguez, Chief Medical Professional Staff II, and the confirmation of graduates by Dr. Joseph Michael A. Jaro, Medical Center Chief II—making the ceremony both meaningful and memorable for all in attendance.
To the graduates, your years of dedication, perseverance, and sacrifice have shaped you into competent, compassionate, and service-oriented physicians. EVMC takes immense pride in your hard work, resilience, and unwavering commitment to excellence in patient care.
This graduation marks not merely the end of a chapter, but the beginning of a greater calling—to serve with integrity, skill, and compassion. Congratulations, doctors! You are a true testament to EVMC’s enduring vision of excellence in public health service.

The DOH Eastern Visayas CHD- Health Facility Development Unit conducted a review on the EVMC's Hospital Scorecard last January 23, 2026.
The meeting was attended by relevant hospital units and led by EVMC's Planning Unit. The activity strengthened performance alignment, encouraged collaboration, and supported EVMC’s continuous efforts toward quality and responsive healthcare services.
