I have observed that many of us seek out practices that will help us experience less stress and more relaxation. Hence, we offer classes and retreats.

However, it is important to emphasize that the true practice of mindfulness does not end there. It is simply the beginning.

Buddhism wisdom reminds us that we are motivated by two things: avoiding pain and seeking pleasure.

Now, I am not an expert, I am simply a keen observer. As a practitioner, teacher and facilitator, as someone who talks to people on the ground, there is really a need for relaxation, but it is so we can find the space to face the emotions we would otherwise have no room for.

It is also true that we use mindfulness and meditation to escape difficult realities. As I have during a heartbreaking time in my life. But overtime, as we keep practicing, as we retrieve our power back, we can gain the courage to face that which we avoid.

The conversation we avoid. The relationship we keep hanging on to. The obvious that we don't want to see. The sadness, anger or grief that we keep shoving down.

We try to offer intentional spaces for raw emotions to be processed. Not avoiding the difficult but facing them with support. Breakthroughs, real and lasting ones, happen when we go beneath the surface.

"Many people today turn to mindfulness expecting stress reduction and relaxation. In Buddhist traditions, however, meditation serves other purposes. Buddhist texts often present meditation as a way of confronting uncertainty, grief, mortality and impermanence.

In the Pali canon, the earliest collection of Buddhist texts, the “Maraṇasati Sutta” teaches practitioners to reflect on the certainty and unpredictability of death. Another text in the Pali canon, the “Upajjhatthana Sutta,” guides readers to reflect on aging, illness and death, and to take responsibility for one’s actions."

"What started as one yoga class in Tagaytay has become more than a retreat—it has become a reminder that healing is rarely a journey taken alone. Sometimes, all it takes is a quiet space, an open circle, and the courage to remember who we already are."

Yoga is a practice of liberation.

Shame became the sales pitch: you’re stressed, you’re aging, you’re not enough – buy this to be well. A practice meant to reduce suffering started manufacturing it. Women have borne the sharpest edge of this commodification. Wellness marketing fused yoga with aesthetics: the “yoga body,” the “glow,” the idea that peace of mind comes with flat abs & Lululemon.

I don't know where I got my strength to facilitate a workshop after arriving from a 4-hour flight, so I can only credit it to God. My angels woke me up at 4am, and drove 4 hours to arrive on time. Always grateful for the spiritual and earthly support I receive. I am never doing this work alone.

I'm excited that more and more corporate leaders are starting to embrace wellness workshops as part of boosting their team's morale.

It's common in Western countries, but we're still very traditional in the Philippines. After the pandemic, I feel we are starting to see the importance of paying closer attention to the individual and the group's mental and emotional health.

Active activities are great, but we also need to balance them with more intentional ones. I see more and more people struggling with sitting still. It's easier to do push-ups than to sit and just breathe.

Sitting still, meditation, yoga, and breathwork are actually internally active. We aprocess a lot that are unseen but can be life-changing for many. Although in this workshop, we also danced!!! 💃🏻💃🏻🪘🥁
