2 fruitful days in Manila ✈️

Went to Manila to complete my IOTA Certification for Ultrasound Assessment of Adnexal Masses and Tumors, with the privilege of learning from Prof. Dr. Dirk Timmerman and Prof. Dr. Wouter Froyman, internationally recognized experts in gynecologic ultrasound and the IOTA methodology.

Day 2 was a masterclass with these mentors and also the opportunity to share Fetal Surgery locally and what we can now offer.

There is always more to learn, more ways to improve, and more we can do for our patients. Every training, every course, and every new skill is another step toward providing better, more accurate, and more compassionate care.

Continuing to learn so I can continue to serve better. 💙

Sometimes things just fall into place at the right time. ❤️

Fetoscopic Laser Photocoagulation (FLP) is a life-saving fetal surgery performed while the babies are still inside the womb. It is the standard treatment for Twin-to-Twin Transfusion Syndrome (TTTS), a serious complication that affects monochorionic (identical) twin pregnancies.

TTTS develops in approximately 10% of monochorionic twin pregnancies. Without treatment, up to 90% of affected pregnancies may result in the loss of one or both babies, making early diagnosis and timely intervention critical.

Because TTTS can develop and progress rapidly, ultrasound surveillance every two weeks, beginning at 16 weeks of gestation, is recommended for all monochorionic twin pregnancies to detect the condition as early as possible.

With prompt diagnosis and fetal surgery, the chances of survival improve, giving these babies the best opportunity for a healthy outcome.

If you are expecting identical twins, close follow up with your OB is essential. Early screening saves lives. 🤍

In one weekend, we welcomed three precious rainbow babies into the world. 🌈🤍

Every one of these births represents a journey marked by loss, hope, courage, and unwavering faith. I am incredibly proud of these new mommies who endured the anxiety that came with their pregnancies and remained committed to every prenatal follow-up. 🤗

Their stories are a beautiful reminder that close monitoring, trust, and teamwork between patients and their healthcare team are key to achieving the best possible outcomes.

Congratulations to these amazing moms and their beautiful rainbow babies. It has been an honor to walk this journey with you. 🌈👶❤️

Last weekend, I attended the Fetal Neurosonology Workshop conducted by the Philippine Society of Maternal-Fetal Medicine. Thank you Dr Abby Cuevas Butron for looking after our patients. 🫶
