Strengthening Knowledge on HIV in Pregnancy and Family Planning

The GH HIV/AIDS Core Team (HACT) members, Dr. Ma. Luningning L. Renovalles, MD, and Ms. Sam Fernandez, RM, served as resource speakers during the seminar on HIV in Pregnancy and Family Planning, organized by the GH, HHSG, PA Nursing Service Education and Training Branch on 01 September 2026.

The session highlighted the importance of increasing knowledge and awareness on HIV transmission from mother to child, as well as the vital role of family planning in promoting the health and well-being of mothers, infants, and families.

As part of the GH HACT’s commitment to HIV education and prevention, the knowledge and lessons gained from continuing education and capacity-building activities are shared with fellow healthcare personnel. Through this knowledge-sharing initiative, the GH HACT aims to increase awareness, strengthen HIV prevention efforts, promote early recognition and appropriate management, and encourage informed and responsible health practices within the community.

Through continuous education and collaboration, we empower healthcare professionals to become effective advocates for HIV prevention, safer motherhood, and healthier families.
Knowledge shared is awareness strengthened. Together, let us continue to educate, prevent, and end HIV-related stigma.

Strengthening HIV Peer Education and Counseling Capacity
The Office of the Chief Surgeon, Philippine Army and the Office of the Chief Nurse, Philippine Army conducted a three-day β€œHIV Counseling to Testing Training for Non-Healthcare Workers (Peer Educators) on 17–19 August 2026 at Lapu-Lapu Hall, HHSG, PA, Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City.

The training emphasized the important role of peer educators in promoting HIV awareness, prevention, and access to appropriate health services. A peer educator is an individual who provides education, support, and guidance to peers on a particular topic or skill. Effective peer educators demonstrate qualities such as relevant knowledge and training, good communication skills, empathy, approachability, adaptability, leadership, and a genuine commitment to helping others. Through peer education, trusted peer relationships can be harnessed to promote learning, encourage informed health decisions, and strengthen HIV prevention efforts.

Among the facilitators were MAJ RUTH ZANDRA T. JAYSON, NC, and Dr. Arsenio Rodolfo, MD, our very own active members of the GH HACT of the Philippine Army. Also, part of the training activity is the demonstration of the proper procedure for HIV self-testing by our HIV screener Mr. Gazzingan and Ms. Santos while Ms. Alminaza and Ms. Caburao, our trained counselors discussed the correct completion of the HIV Testing and Screening (HTS) Form. Together with the other trained counselors present, they facilitated pre-test counseling prior to voluntary HIV testing, reinforcing the importance of informed decision-making, confidentiality, and appropriate support throughout the testing process.

The GH, HHSG, PA HIV/AIDS Core Team (HACT) continues to contribute significantly to capacity-building initiatives by sharing knowledge, strengthening the competencies of healthcare personnel and peer educators, and promoting HIV awareness within the Philippine Army.

Through continuous education, collaboration, and knowledge-sharing, the GH HACT remains committed to strengthening HIV prevention, expanding access to HIV services, reducing stigma, and advancing the Philippine Army HIV Program.

Knowledge empowers. Peer education connects. Together, we strengthen the fight against HIV.
