Taguig City

The Philippine Army General Hospital led by its steadfast Commanding Officer Col. Cesar Almer Candelaria MC (GSC) also a veteran of the Siege of Marawi, proudly hosted the 9th Araw ng Paggunita in solemn remembrance of the Heroes of the Marawi Siege — honoring the courage, sacrifice, and enduring brotherhood of the Marawi Liberators and all those who fought in defense of the nation during one of the most significant military campaigns in recent Philippine history.

The commemoration commenced with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Marawi Siege Memorial Pylon at Libingan ng mga Bayani. Former Commander of Joint Task Force Marawi , Former Commanding General Philippine Army and Former Secretary of the Department of Social Welfare and Development, General Emmanuel T. Bautista, rendered the first floral tribute, followed by Former Deputy Commander of Task Group Ranao, and the current Chief of Staff, AFP, General Romeo S. Brawner Jr. Marawi Liberators, veterans, and personnel in attendance then offered flowers in solemn remembrance of fallen comrades and in honor of the hard-fought victory achieved through courage, unity, and sacrifice.

A Holy Mass followed, offered for the eternal repose of the fallen heroes, for the healing and strength of their families, and for the continued peace, recovery, and progress of Marawi City.

The program also became an opportunity for Marawi veterans and liberators to reunite with fellow warriors bound by shared hardship, service, and sacrifice. Through fellowship and reflection, they revisited memories of the campaign, honored brothers who never returned home, and reaffirmed the bonds forged in battle that continue long after the conflict has ended.

Messages shared by the heroes in attendance reminded all present of the resilience, patriotism, and unity that defined the Marawi campaign and the enduring legacy of those who answered the call of duty in the service of the Filipino people.

As we mark the 9th year of remembrance, the Philippine Army General Hospital stands united with the Armed Forces of the Philippines in honoring the legacy of our fallen heroes and ensuring that the sacrifices made in Marawi shall never be forgotten.
