Many customers know medicines by their brand names, but may not recognize their generic names. Understanding the generic name helps you identify the active ingredient of your medicine.

Here are some common examples you may encounter in Philippine pharmacies:

🔹 PAIN and PAIN RELIEVERS
• Biogesic → Paracetamol
• Calpol → Paracetamol
• Dolfenal → Mefenamic Acid
• Ponstan → Mefenamic Acid
• Advil → Ibuprofen
• Medicol → Ibuprofen
• Alaxan FR → Ibuprofen + Paracetamol

🔹 ALLERGY & COLD MEDICINES
• Zyrtec → Cetirizine
• Aerius → Desloratadine
• Claritin → Loratadine
• Neozep → Paracetamol + Phenylephrine + Chlorphenamine

Pediatric Anaphylaxis
- is a life-threatening allergic reaction that can develop within minutes after exposure to foods, medicines, insect stings, or other allergens.

Important: Anaphylaxis can occur without hives or a skin rash.

Antihistamines are not a substitute for epinephrine because they do not treat airway swelling or shock.

MIMS Education: Gout care update

Gout is a form of inflammatory arthritis caused by the deposition of monosodium urate crystals in and around joints. It can cause sudden, very painful flares, most often affecting the big toe, foot, ankle, or knee, with redness, swelling, warmth, and difficulty using the affected joint. Long-term control is important because untreated hyperuricemia and recurrent flares may progress to chronic gouty arthritis, tophi, joint damage, and urate-related renal complications.

I am urging the Food and Drug Administration to probe the recall of Nan Optipro and Nankid Optipro products, which are part of its line of infant and growing-up milk formulas.

Tulad ng maraming mga magulang na nagtiwala sa mga produktong ito, nababahala ako sa maaaring maging epekto nito sa kalusugan at kaligtasan ng mga bata. Mahalagang linawin natin kung paano nangyari ito at kung paano natin maiiwasan ang ganitong klaseng mga insidente.
