Benefits of stair climbing?!
Stair climbing is basically short bursts of cardio + resistance. That combo hits the cardiovascular system harder than flat walking, with less time needed.
Improves VO₂ max and heart efficiency
Climbing stairs raises your heart rate and breathing fast. Doing it regularly trains your heart to pump more blood per beat.
Result: your resting heart rate drops, and everyday activities feel easier because your heart doesn’t have to work as hard.
Lowers blood pressure
The leg muscles contract hard with each step, acting like a pump to push blood back to the heart. Over time this improves vascular function and reduces arterial stiffness, which helps lower both systolic and diastolic blood pressure.
Improves circulation and endothelial function
The repeated muscle pump action boosts blood flow through arteries and helps the endothelium — the lining of your blood vessels — stay flexible. That reduces risk of plaque buildup and clots.
Cuts cardiovascular disease risk
Large cohort studies show people who climb 50+ stairs/day have ∼20-30% lower risk of coronary artery disease compared to people who don’t. The effect is dose-dependent: more flights = more benefit, up to a point.
Helps manage cholesterol and blood sugar
Those short high-intensity bursts improve insulin sensitivity and HDL/LDL balance.
