In 1987, fear and misinformation about HIV were everywhere.

Many people wrongly believed they could contract HIV from a handshake, a hug, or simply being near someone living with the virus. As stigma spread, so did isolation.

Then Princess Diana did something that changed the conversation.

When she opened the UK's first dedicated HIV/AIDS unit, she intentionally shook hands with a patient without wearing gloves and asked photographers to capture the moment. It wasn't just a handshake. It was a powerful statement that people living with HIV deserved compassion, dignity, and human connection, not fear.

That single image helped challenge myths around the world and reminded millions that HIV cannot be transmitted through casual contact.

Nearly four decades later, her message still matters.

Let's continue to replace fear with facts, and stigma with compassion.

As a preemptive measure due to the inclement weather due to Southwest Monsoon enhanced by Typhoon , FACE-TO-FACE CLASSES at ALL LEVELS (Public and Private) in Valenzuela City are SUSPENDED today, July 10, 2026.

It is at the discretion of each school or institution to determine which Education in Emergencies instructional model to implement following the suspension of face-to-face classes.

Work in City Government offices, except emergency and disaster response offices, is likewise SUSPENDED today.

Work suspension for private companies, on the other hand, will be at the discretion of their respective management.
