July is National Deworming Month!

The Ayala Health District — covering Barangays Ayala, Baluno, Cawit, Maasin, Recodo, Sinunuc, and Tulungatung — under the Zamboanga City Health Office, in partnership with the Department of Health (DOH), will take part in this year’s activity through the “Oplan Goodbye Bulate” campaign.

We invite all parents and guardians to allow their children to join this important health program by accomplishing the Parent Consent Form.

✅ Why is deworming important?
• Helps children grow healthy and strong
• Improves appetite and nutrient absorption
• Boosts focus, energy, and school performance
• Prevents intestinal worm infections and related health problems
• Encourages better attendance and overall well-being

Deworming medicine is safe, effective, and recommended for children. It will be given by trained health staff following DOH guidelines.

Together, let us protect our children and keep them healthy, active, and ready to learn.

💚 A healthy learner is a better learner!

CITY URGES STRONGER NUTRITION EFFORTS FOR VULNERABLE CHILDREN| The City Nutrition Council (CNC), chaired by Mayor Khymer Olaso, convened Monday, April 27, urging stronger and more targeted nutrition efforts to address the needs of vulnerable and undernourished children in Zamboanga City.

Representing the mayor, Vice Mayor Beng Climaco, together with Councilor Hannah Nuño, emphasized the importance of data-driven planning in crafting responsive nutrition programs, calling on members to clearly identify gaps and priority interventions.

Climaco urged council members to submit formal, data-backed requests to the Sangguniang Panlungsod, particularly on personnel requirements, the proposed creation of a technical working group and specific programs needed for identified beneficiaries. She underscored that evidence-based proposals would help ensure efficient allocation of resources and more effective service delivery.

The CNC members likewise tackled preparations for the 52nd Nutrition Month in July 2026, which will carry the theme "Sa PPAN [Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition], Sama-Sama sa Nutrisyong Sapat Para sa Lahat," with the sub-theme "Nutrisyon at Kalikasan Ating Pangalagaan!" The observance is expected to promote broader community participation and awareness on nutrition and environmental sustainability.

Key programs discussed included the Busog-Lusog Talino feeding program, HAPAG-ASA and other initiatives aimed at reducing malnutrition and improving the overall health condition of children in the city.

Among those present were Nutrition Officer II Rowena Lusaya; Rev. Fr. Elmer Sumile, director of the Community-Based Health Program of the Archdiocese of Zamboanga; Medical Nutrition Program Coordinator Myra Sharon Francisco; and Gerald Cris Pioquinto, chairman of the City Nutrition Evaluation Team, along with representatives from the Zamboanga City Government, the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), Zamboanga City Medical Center (ZCMC), Philippine Red Cross (PRC), and other partner agencies. The CSWDO kicks off the first two batches of the 2-day capacity building training focused on Republic Act 11930 and Recognizing and Responding to OSAEC-CSAEM Cases. This initiative will run until June 6, training a total of five batches of participants.

The sessions at a local hotel bring together group of stakeholders from the ZCCPC, ZCCATIP-VAWC, and BCPCs, alongside law enforcement officers from the Zamboanga City Police Office, Naval Forces, Philippine Coast Guard, and the Philippine Army. Active participation also from child representatives and student leaders ensures that the voices of the youth are front and center in this advocacy.

Throughout the training, participants are learning from resource experts, including Atty. Joey Gumera from the International Justice Mission, dedicated police officers from the WCPC-MFU, and Dr. Marcelina Carpizo, a long-staunch champion and advocate of trafficking in persons and OSAEC-CSAEM.

This collaborative effort aims to strengthen the frontlines, sharpen local response skills, and unite the community to ensure a safer, more protective environment for every child in Zamboanga City.
