The 𝑷𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝑺𝒂𝒇𝒆𝒕𝒚 𝑬𝒗𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒔 𝑹𝒆𝒑𝒐𝒓𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑾𝒐𝒓𝒌𝒔𝒉𝒐𝒑 was successfully conducted last 𝐌𝐚𝐲 𝟐𝟐, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔, at the Multipurpose Hall, Central Block Tower 1 of Zamboanga City Medical Center.

The workshop gathered doctors, nurses, and allied medical professionals in a collaborative learning environment focused on strengthening patient safety culture, promoting just culture principles, and enhancing patient safety event reporting practices within the institution.

Through engaging discussions and interactive workshops, participants gained valuable insights on the importance of timely reporting, accountability, learning from incidents, and translating reports into meaningful actions for safer patient care.

This initiative reflects ZCMC’s continued commitment to quality improvement, patient-centered care, and fostering a safer healthcare environment for all.

𝐙𝐚𝐦𝐛𝐨𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐚 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐌𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫, in partnership with the 𝐎𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐕𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧, successfully conducted a 𝐋𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 & 𝐎𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐧 𝐇𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐞 𝐃𝐨𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐚𝐭 𝐂𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐇𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 for selected ZCMC personnel as part of the hospital’s continuing commitment to patient safety, occupational safety, and animal welfare.

The capacity-building activity provided participants with proper knowledge and humane techniques in handling stray animals within the healthcare setting, ensuring the safety and well-being of patients, healthcare workers, staff, and visitors while promoting compassionate and responsible practices toward animals.

Following the lecture and orientation, the Office of the City Veterinarian also conducted an actual demonstration on humane dog and cat catching and handling techniques, allowing participants to gain practical experience and better preparedness in responding to real-life situations within the hospital premises.

By strengthening awareness and preparedness, ZCMC continues to foster a safer, healthier, and more compassionate hospital environment through collaboration, prevention, and responsible action. This initiative also highlights the importance of protecting both people and animals in creating a secure and climate-smart healthcare facility.

𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐃𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬

With the increasing number of fire incidents in Zamboanga City, there is a growing risk of exposure to particulate matter (PM)—a mixture of very small particles released into the air from burning materials such as plastics, wood, fuel, and waste.

According to the Department of Health, particulate matter, particularly 𝐏𝐌₁₀ 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐌₂.₅ 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐤𝐬. PM₁₀ can irritate the eyes, nose, throat, and upper airways, while the finer PM₂.₅ particles can pe*****te deep into the lungs and even enter the bloodstream, potentially causing asthma attacks, lung inflammation, and cardiovascular complications.

Smoke from fires does not remain confined to the immediate area. It can travel through the air and affect nearby communities, hospitals, schools, and residential areas, resulting in poor air quality even at a distance. In similar fire incidents in the Philippines, the DOH has warned that haze contains fine particles that can reach the lungs and bloodstream, increasing the risk of both short-term and long-term health effects.

As a government healthcare institution, Zamboanga City Medical Center strongly emphasizes that protective measures must be taken even if you are not near the fire site, as smoke can spread and linger in the environment.

Zamboanga City Medical Center participated in the Healthcare in Danger Workshop led by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) with the HEMS Unit, Safety and Environment Unit, and Security Unit in attendance.

Lectures from ICRC speakers, Dr. Muldong and Mr. Guiroy, emphasized the importance of protecting healthcare at all times. They shared practical ways to strengthen the safety of healthcare facilities and highlighted the devastating impact when hospitals are affected or attacked during crises disrupting essential services and endangering lives.

🌍🛡️ 2026 World Day for Safety and Health at Work

Zamboanga City Medical Center (ZCMC) proudly celebrated this year’s World Day for Safety and Health at Work on April 24, 2026, at the ZCMC Central Block, Tower 1 Lobby.

The event gathered healthcare professionals and staff in a meaningful exchange of knowledge and insights on promoting a safer, healthier, and more productive workplace.
