At some point in life, the child who was once guided by his mother becomes the one guiding her back to the light.

Last night was a beautiful reminder of what makes Western Mindanao State University College of Medicine truly special โ€” not just excellence in teaching and service, but the people behind it.

Our Faculty Christmas Party was filled with laughter, stories, and the warmth of colleagues who have become family through years of shared purpose. It was a night to pause, celebrate the season, and appreciate the camaraderie that strengthens our commitment to educating future physicians.

We also proudly welcomed our newest faculty members โ€” Dr. Ever Jaji, Dr. Angeline Llemit, and Dr. Herbert Saavedra โ€” to the WMSU College of Medicine family. We are excited to journey with you as you share your expertise, passion, and dedication with our students and institution.

Grateful for moments like these that remind us why we do what we do. Hereโ€™s to teamwork, mentorship, and another year of service, growth, and excellence.

My teacherโ€™s vacation ended in the most meaningful way โ€” with a 3-day Cataract Surgical Mission that holds a special place in my heart.

First, it marked my return to the Mindanao Humanitarian Volunteers for Peace after a six-year hiatus โ€” a group Iโ€™ve always been proud to serve with. Second, I had the privilege of working side by side with my dear friend and fellow ophthalmologist, Doc Tess Villaluz Heyrosa. Third, this mission was made possible through the generous support of another good friend, Mayor Lulu Calonge of Mabuhay LGU.

And most special of all, I was able to give back to the people of Olutanga Island โ€” the very place where I grew up.

Truly, this wasnโ€™t just a mission. It was a homecoming of service, friendship, and gratitude...
