At 3:00 AM today (08 July), Super Typhoon INDAY entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility. PRC advises the public to uphold the organization’s 4Ps—Predict, Plan, Prepare and Practice.

PREDICT: Stay informed through official weather and geological updates from local authorities (like PHIVOLCS) to anticipate the impacts of potential hazards.

PLAN: Coordinate with family members or your community to identify evacuation routes, nearest safe zones, and communication strategies in case of an emergency.

PREPARE: Secure essential survival supplies and prepare go-bags or emergency lifeline kits (water, non-perishable food, flashlights, medicines, and first aid supplies).

PRACTICE: Conduct regular evacuation and safety drills so that everyone knows exactly what to do and where to go when a disaster strikes.

In addition, All PRC volunteers and staff are reminded to practice 4 R’s- report, record, respond and recognize.

REPORT: Communicate real-time updates and observations of the situation or emergency directly to local Philippine Red Cross chapters or the 24/7 Operations Center

RECORD: Document all critical information—such as the number of patients, damage assessments, and resources deployed—to keep operations organized and accountable.

RESPOND: Act quickly—evacuate immediately if necessary to a safe shelter. For trained volunteers: Immediately take action to provide humanitarian assistance, including
first aid, rescue, or relief ops

RECOGNIZE: Acknowledge and appreciate the hard work, sacrifices, and contributions of volunteers, staff, and partners involved in saving lives
Stay indoors, keep calm, and avoid low-lying areas, cliffs, foothills, or crossing flowing streams.

🌊 𝐇𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 | 𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐌𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬

Earlier today marked a significant milestone as Barangay Taluksangay became the first community in Zamboanga City to officially inaugurate and unveil its 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐓𝐬𝐮𝐧𝐚𝐦𝐢 𝐀𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐭 𝐒𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦 (𝐂𝐓𝐀𝐒).

This is the first of six coastal barangays in the city to receive and install a CTAS under the 𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐋𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭, an initiative of the Philippine Red Cross and Spanish Red Cross, made possible through the support of AECID and Eibarko Udala.

The installation of the CTAS is more than just putting up an early warning system—it is about empowering communities with timely information, strengthening disaster preparedness, and helping save lives when every second matters.

The unveiling was attended by representatives from the City Government of Zamboanga, Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS-DOST), the Zamboanga City Disaster Risk Reduction And Management Office, and the Barangay Council of Taluksangay, reaffirming our shared commitment to building resilient and disaster-ready communities.

Every partnership, every preparedness initiative, and every community equipped with the right tools brings us one step closer to a safer future more resilient, and tsunami-ready communities through science, partnership, and community participation.

Prepared communities save lives.

On 𝗝𝘂𝗹𝘆 3–4, 2026, the Philippine Red Cross, in collaboration with Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS-DOST), the Zamboanga City Disaster Risk Reduction And Management Office (ZCDRRMO), the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), and the City Planning Office, successfully conducted the 𝗧𝘀𝘂𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗶 𝗘𝘃𝗮𝗰𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 106𝘁𝗵–111𝘁𝗵 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗧𝘀𝘂𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗶 𝗔𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 (𝗖𝗧𝗔𝗦) into the Philippine Tsunami Early Warning System (TeWS-Philippines) at Hotel Marcelina.

The two-day activity gathered representatives from the six coastal Green Livelihood Project barangays —𝗗𝗶𝘁𝗮, 𝗣𝗮𝗻𝘂𝗯𝗶𝗴𝗮𝗻, 𝗕𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴, 𝗠𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗴, 𝗧𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗸𝘀𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗮𝘆, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗸𝗶— to strengthen community preparedness, improve evacuation planning, and enhance local capacity to respond effectively during tsunami emergencies.

One of the workshop’s major milestones was the installation and integration of the 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗧𝘀𝘂𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗶 𝗔𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 (𝗖𝗧𝗔𝗦) a community-based early warning system equipped with strategically placed sirens that provide timely tsunami alerts. More than just technology, these alerting stations represent a shared commitment to protecting lives by giving communities the precious time they need to move to safety.

Participants also reinforced their knowledge of the three natural tsunami warning signs:

🌍 𝗦𝗛𝗔𝗞𝗘 – A strong or prolonged earthquake.
🌊 𝗗𝗥𝗢𝗣 – A sudden and unusual retreat of seawater.
🌊 𝗥𝗢𝗔𝗥 – A loud roaring sound coming from the sea.

When these signs appear, every second matters. Recognizing them and acting immediately can help save lives.

The Philippine Red Cross Zamboanga City Chapter officially kicked off the celebration of National Blood Donors Month through a successful Mobile Blood Donation Drive held in partnership with the Rotary Club at the East Wing, Level 5 Convention Hall, KCC Mall de Zamboanga.

This meaningful initiative reflects our shared commitment to ensuring a safe and adequate blood supply for patients in need while promoting the culture of voluntary, non-remunerated blood donation in our community.

We extend our sincerest gratitude to all our generous blood donors who selflessly gave the gift of life today. Your compassion and willingness to help others embody the true spirit of humanity and inspire more individuals to become regular voluntary blood donors.
