Guidelines on ‘Prevention of Pressure Ulcers/Pressure Injuries’
Preventing and managing pressure ulcers is a complex practice that involves various levels of patient safeguarding. The primary objective of the ‘Guidelines on the Prevention of Pressure Ulcers/Pressure Injuries’ is to ensure the timely identification of patients at risk of developing pressure-related injuries.
These guidelines aim to prevent avoidable harm through thorough assessment and the adoption of appropriate pressure-reducing strategies, guided by the principle that “prevention is better than cure.” Measures such as providing supportive surfaces, repositioning patients, optimising nutritional status, and moisturising sacral skin can significantly reduce the risk of developing pressure ulcers and injuries. Healthcare professionals play a pivotal role in mitigating preventable conditions in hospitals by following the Guidelines, which offer best practices and practical recommendations.
