Lipedema is a chronic medical condition characterized by a symmetrical, abnormal deposition of fat tissue under the skin, almost exclusively affecting women. It most commonly target the lower body, including the hips, thighs, and calves, but can also affect the arms.
Unlike ordinary body fat, lipedema fat is highly resistant to traditional diet and exercise. This often leads to severe psychological distress and physical discomfort.
Lipedema is often misdiagnosed as standard obesity or simple cellulite.
