Current Influenza Situation
Key Recommendations
I would like to emphasize the following steps for the public to protect themselves and others:
Get Vaccinated
Annual flu vaccination is recommended for everyone 6 months of age and older.
It's not too late—vaccination can still provide protection, even as viruses circulate, and is expected to reduce the risk of severe illness, hospitalization, and death.
Practice Everyday Preventive Actions
Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, or use alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or your elbow.
Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces.
Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
If You Feel Sick
Stay home when sick to avoid spreading the virus—remain home for at least 24 hours after your fever is gone (without fever-reducing medicine).
Seek medical care promptly if you have symptoms and are at higher risk for complications (e.g., young children, adults 65+, pregnant people, or those with chronic conditions like asthma, diabetes, or heart disease).
Common symptoms include fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, fatigue, and headache.
Wear a mask in crowded indoor spaces or if you're at higher risk.
Improve ventilation when indoors with others.
Stay safe this season!
