🇵🇰 A Historic Milestone in Ophthalmic Surgery in Pakistan

Alhamdulillah, I am delighted to share that we have successfully performed Pakistan’s first 3D heads-up cataract and vitreoretinal surgeries using the Alcon NGENUITY® 3D Visualization System at Shifa International Hospital.

This marks a significant step forward in ophthalmic surgery, bringing cutting-edge digital visualization technology to benefit our patients and our surgical teams.

The NGENUITY 3D system offers several important advantages:
✅ High-definition 3D visualization with exceptional depth perception
✅ Enhanced magnification and a wider surgical view for greater precision
✅ Lower illumination levels, potentially reducing retinal light exposure while maintaining excellent visualization
✅ Improved surgeon ergonomics through a comfortable heads-up operating position, helping reduce fatigue during complex procedures
✅ A shared 3D view that enhances teaching, training, collaboration, and surgical education

Most importantly, this technology has the potential to make eye surgery safer, more precise, and more effective, ultimately improving patient outcomes.

This achievement would not have been possible without the visionary leadership and unwavering support of the management of Shifa International Hospital. I sincerely thank Dr. Zeeshan, Dr. Arif Malik, Dr. Aamer Nazir, Dr. Junaid Mustafa, and Mr. Taimur Shah for their trust, encouragement, and commitment to advancing patient care through innovation.

I would also like to express my heartfelt gratitude to my friends and colleagues, Dr. Mohamed Tawfik, Dr. Gustavo Hüning, and Dr. Lukan Mishev, whose inspiration, guidance, and generous sharing of their experience helped me throughout the entire journey of introducing this technology. Their advice and encouragement were invaluable in turning this vision into reality.

This milestone is not just about adopting new technology—it is about improving patient care, advancing surgical education, and inspiring future innovation in ophthalmology. We remain committed to bringing the latest advances in eye care to Pakistan and continuing to raise the standards of ophthalmic surgery for the benefit of our patients.
