A thyroidectomy is a surgical procedure to remove part or all of the thyroid gland. It may be performed for conditions such as thyroid nodules, goiter, hyperthyroidism, suspicious or cancerous thyroid lesions, depending on the patient's diagnosis.

The procedure requires careful surgical planning and meticulous technique, particularly because of the close relationship of the thyroid gland with important structures such as the recurrent laryngeal nerves and parathyroid glands.
