Mehru’s story is a survivor’s journey, and a powerful reminder that gender-based violence does not end with the incident. Its impact can continue to leave its mark on the lives of survivors, their families and communities.
For Rozan, this story carries an additional meaning. Mehru was once a Rozan volunteer, making her journey a small but deeply meaningful part of Rozan’s own journey.
For over three decades, Rozan has worked to build awareness around violence, strengthen support systems and create safer, more responsive environments for those affected by violence.
This episode brings to life something that is at the heart of this work: when someone experiences violence, healing requires more than addressing the immediate harm. Survivors need safety, understanding and emotional support, while families and communities need the knowledge and strength to stand beside them.
Stories like Mehru’s also remind us why prevention, awareness and community support matter. Creating a society where survivors are protected, heard and supported is a collective responsibility.
This is why Rozan’s work matters, not only in responding to violence, but in working towards a society where safer relationships, informed communities and supportive families can help prevent violence and enable survivors to heal.
