👁️🦜 Have you ever noticed a parrot’s pupils rapidly becoming smaller and larger?

This fascinating behavior is called Eye Pinning or Eye Flashing. It occurs when a parrot is emotionally stimulated and can be associated with excitement, curiosity, stress, fear, or increased alertness. It is not always a sign of aggression or anger.

In this video, the parrot displayed eye pinning immediately after being handled for a physical examination. This reminds us that parrots communicate a lot through their eyes, and understanding their body language is essential for proper handling and care.

Have you ever observed eye pinning in your parrot? Let us know in the comments!

Psittacine Beak and Feather Disease (PBFD) is a serious viral infection affecting parrots. It is caused by a circovirus and spreads through feather dust, droppings, and direct contact. Infected birds often show feather loss, abnormal beak growth, and immune suppression. Prevention lies in strict quarantine of new birds and good hygiene. Early diagnosis and isolation are crucial. Protect your flock—know the signs and act early!

I noticed this little one was carrying some unwelcome guests. Soft ticks can cause anemia, weakness, and transmit diseases to poultry and birds very quickly. If you see these on your birds, it’s time to treat them and thoroughly clean out their coop or nesting area. Watch closely to see what they look like in motion!
