Dr. Shujaul Mulk Khan is serving as a Tenured Professor of Ecology, Conservation & Climate Change in the Department of Plant Sciences, and Director Career Counselling and Job Placement at Quaid-i-Azam University Islamabad, Pakistan and member of the Pakistan Academy of Sciences. He is Visiting Professor/Scientist in Toraighyrov, Kozybayev, Margulan and Astana International, Universities Pavlodar Kazakhstan and the University of Gastronomic Sciences, Italy. He served Hazara University Mansehra for more than 9 years as a Lecturer in Botany (2006 -2015). He received various Awards/Distinctions during his academic career including Recognized Researcher Award HEC Pakistan 2026, OIC-COMSTECH Best Paper Award 2023, Best Research Paper Award HEC Pakistan 2018, Best Scholar award at IBC Shenzhen China 2017, and Research Productivity/Best Performance Awards QAU, Pakistan in the years 2023, 2021, 2020 & 2019, Best PhD Thesis Award 2012, University of Leicester UK. He has been in the top 50 young productive Scientists of Pakistan under the age of 40 years.

He has supervised 14 PhDs and 75 MPhil students so far. He achieved 10 research projects worth of Rs. 20+ million for research purposes from PARC, PSF-NSFC, PAS, & WWF. He has published 2 books, 50+ book chapters and 200+ research articles in prestigious journals with 500+ Impact Factor, 7500+ Citation and 1000000+ readings. He has achieved 30+ Travel Grants worth Rs. 20+ millions to participate in scientific events around 22 different countries. He participated/presented in 170+ International and National conferences and academic events including Plenary/Invited/Keynote Speeches and published 100+ abstracts. He has also organized number of National and International conferences. He has also participated on various TV and Radio programs for delivering the scientific findings and expertise to the society in common language.

He is elected president of the International Society of Ethnobiology (ISE), Vice President Global Association of Traditional Medicines South Asia Chapter, and Member Board of Directors ISGSS – the world’s renowned societies. He is also serving as General Secretary of the Pakistan Society for Conservation Biology 2019 to-date. He is a member of a number of the international societies i.e., Slow Food Association, Conservation Biology, ESA, BES, BSBI, SBS, PBS, EBS, & VFAHT etc. He has been on the Editorial Board of the prestigious impact factor journals including Journal of Frontiers in Public Health, Ethnobiology and Ethnomedicines, Mountain Research and Development, Journal of Ethnobiology Research & Applications and Pakistan Journal of Botany. He is a reviewer of dozens of impact factor journals. He has been a member of several social welfare groups and Literacy societies.

His scientific work has high social impact in terms of distribution of plants, awareness talks & walks, human capital development, climate change sensitization, presentations, consultations, voluntary activities & international days celebrations and many more from grass root level to higher levels.

Impact factor of the 'Journal of Advanced Research' has been increased from 13.00 to 17.10, where we published an important article titled "Plants predict the mineral mines; A methodological approach to use indicator plant species for the discovery of mining sites" in the year 2022.

اساتذہ اور محققین: قومی ترقی کی پوشیدہ قوت

جب بھی کسی قوم کی ترقی، خوشحالی اور عالمی وقار کا ذکر ہوتا ہے تو عموماً سیاست دانوں، صنعت کاروں، تاجروں یا فوجی قیادت کی خدمات کو نمایاں کیا جاتا ہے۔ لیکن ایک حقیقت ایسی بھی ہے جو اکثر نظروں سے اوجھل رہ جاتی ہے۔ یہ حقیقت ان لوگوں سے متعلق ہے جو خاموشی سے قوموں کی تقدیر سنوارتے ہیں، مستقبل کے رہنما تیار کرتے ہیں اور علم و تحقیق کے ذریعے ترقی کے نئے دروازے کھولتے ہیں۔ یہ لوگ ہیں جامعات کے اساتذہ اور محققین — وہ افراد جو دراصل کسی بھی قوم کے حقیقی معمار ہوتے ہیں۔
تاریخ گواہ ہے کہ دنیا کی ہر ترقی یافتہ قوم نے اپنی علمی برادری کو عزت، اختیار اور وسائل فراہم کیے ہیں۔ آج جن ممالک کو سائنسی، معاشی اور تکنیکی میدانوں میں قیادت حاصل ہے، ان کی کامیابی کے پس منظر میں مضبوط جامعات، فعال تحقیقی مراکز اور باصلاحیت اساتذہ و محققین موجود ہیں۔ قومیں صرف سڑکوں، پلوں اور بلند عمارتوں سے ترقی یافتہ نہیں بنتیں؛ ان کی اصل طاقت ان کے تعلیمی اداروں اور علمی سرمائے میں پوشیدہ ہوتی ہے۔ جامعہ محض تعلیم دینے کا ادارہ نہیں بلکہ علم کی تخلیق کا مرکز ہوتی ہے۔ یہاں صرف کتابی معلومات منتقل نہیں کی جاتیں بلکہ نئے خیالات جنم لیتے ہیں، مسائل کے حل تلاش کیے جاتے ہیں اور مستقبل کی قیادت تیار کی جاتی ہے۔ ایک استاد جب کلاس روم میں کھڑا ہوتا ہے تو وہ صرف سبق نہیں پڑھا رہا ہوتا بلکہ دراصل ایک پوری نسل کی فکری تشکیل کر رہا ہوتا ہے۔
آج ہسپتالوں میں مریضوں کا علاج کرنے والے ڈاکٹر، بڑے بڑے منصوبوں کو پایۂ تکمیل تک پہنچانے والے انجینئر، نئی ادویات ایجاد کرنے والے سائنس دان، قومی پالیسیوں کی تشکیل میں معاون ماہرینِ معاشیات اور ملکی سلامتی کے لیے حکمتِ عملی وضع کرنے والے ماہرین — سب کسی نہ کسی استاد کے شاگرد ہوتے ہیں۔ اگر استاد نہ ہو تو ماہرین پیدا نہیں ہوتے، اور اگر تحقیق نہ ہو تو ترقی کا سفر رک جاتا ہے۔ صحت کے شعبے میں جامعاتی تحقیق کی اہمیت کسی تعارف کی محتاج نہیں۔ بیماریوں کی تشخیص سے لے کر جدید علاج اور نئی ادویات کی دریافت تک، ہر سنگِ میل کے پیچھے برسوں کی محنت اور تحقیق کارفرما ہوتی ہے۔ کووڈ-19 جیسی عالمی وبا نے پوری دنیا کو یہ احساس دلایا کہ تحقیق اور سائنس محض تعلیمی سرگرمیاں نہیں بلکہ انسانی بقا کا ذریعہ ہیں۔
اسی طرح زراعت، جو پاکستان سمیت کئی ترقی پذیر ممالک کی معیشت کا بنیادی ستون ہے، جامعاتی تحقیق کی مرہونِ منت ہے۔ بہتر بیج، جدید کاشتکاری، پانی کے مؤثر استعمال کی تکنیکیں اور موسمیاتی تبدیلیوں کے مطابق زرعی حکمتِ عملیاں، سب علمی تحقیق کے ثمرات ہیں۔ یہی تحقیق غذائی تحفظ کو یقینی بناتی اور کسان کی زندگی بہتر بناتی ہے۔ صنعتی ترقی بھی جامعات اور تحقیقی اداروں کے بغیر ممکن نہیں۔ جدید دنیا میں معیشتیں علم پر استوار ہو چکی ہیں۔ نئی ٹیکنالوجی، مصنوعی ذہانت، سائبر سیکیورٹی، روبوٹکس اور صنعتی جدت طرازی کا سرچشمہ تحقیقی مراکز اور جامعات ہی ہیں۔ جو قومیں تحقیق میں سرمایہ کاری کرتی ہیں، وہی عالمی منڈیوں میں مسابقت برقرار رکھ پاتی ہیں۔
قومی سلامتی کے میدان میں بھی جامعات کا کردار غیر معمولی ہے۔ جدید دفاعی نظام، سائنسی ایجادات، سائبر دفاع اور تزویراتی مطالعات سب تحقیق کے مرہونِ منت ہیں۔ حقیقت یہ ہے کہ آج کی دنیا میں جنگیں صرف میدانِ جنگ میں نہیں بلکہ لیبارٹریوں، تحقیقی مراکز اور علمی اداروں میں بھی لڑی جاتی ہیں۔ اس کے باوجود ایک تلخ حقیقت یہ ہے کہ ہمارے معاشروں میں اساتذہ اور محققین کو وہ مقام، احترام اور سہولیات حاصل نہیں جو ان کے شایانِ شان ہیں۔ وہ تدریس، تحقیق، طلبہ کی رہنمائی، انتظامی ذمہ داریوں اور علمی خدمات کے بوجھ تلے مسلسل مصروف رہتے ہیں، لیکن اکثر ان کی محنت کا صلہ محدود وسائل اور ناکافی اعتراف کی صورت میں ملتا ہے۔
اگر ہم عالمی معیار کی جامعات، مؤثر تحقیق اور جدت پر مبنی معیشت چاہتے ہیں تو ہمیں اپنے اساتذہ اور محققین پر سرمایہ کاری کرنا ہوگی۔ بہتر تنخواہیں، وافر تحقیقی فنڈنگ، بین الاقوامی تعاون کے مواقع، کارکردگی پر مبنی مراعات اور سازگار تعلیمی ماحول کسی قسم کی عیاشی نہیں بلکہ قومی ترقی کی بنیادی ضرورت ہیں۔ آج دنیا بھر میں باصلاحیت افراد کے لیے سرحدوں کی اہمیت کم ہوتی جا رہی ہے۔ اگر ہم اپنے اہلِ علم کو مناسب مواقع فراہم نہیں کریں گے تو وہ اپنی صلاحیتیں ان ممالک کے لیے وقف کر دیں گے جہاں علم اور تحقیق کی زیادہ قدر کی جاتی ہے۔ ذہانت کا انخلا صرف افراد کا نقصان نہیں بلکہ پوری قوم کے مستقبل کو کمزور کر دیتا ہے۔
اکیسویں صدی موسمیاتی تبدیلی، غذائی بحران، صحتِ عامہ کے چیلنجز اور تیز رفتار تکنیکی انقلاب کی صدی ہے۔ ان پیچیدہ مسائل کا حل نہ سیاست کے پاس اکیلے ہے اور نہ ہی معیشت کے پاس۔ ان کا پائیدار حل علم، تحقیق اور جدت کے ذریعے ہی ممکن ہے، اور یہ سب کچھ جامعاتی اساتذہ اور محققین کی محنت کا ثمر ہے۔ لہٰذا وقت آ گیا ہے کہ ہم اپنے قومی ترجیحات کا ازسرِنو جائزہ لیں۔ جو قوم اپنے اساتذہ اور محققین کو عزت دیتی ہے، دراصل وہ اپنے مستقبل کو عزت دیتی ہے۔ جو قوم ان پر سرمایہ کاری کرتی ہے، وہ اپنی خوشحالی، سلامتی اور ترقی میں سرمایہ کاری کرتی ہے۔
مستقبل کی عمارتیں اینٹوں اور پتھروں سے نہیں، بلکہ علم، تحقیق اور فکر سے تعمیر ہوتی ہیں۔ اور ان عمارتوں کے اصل معمار ہمارے اساتذہ اور محققین ہیں۔ انہیں وہ مقام دینا جو ان کا حق ہے، محض ایک تعلیمی ضرورت نہیں بلکہ قومی بقا اور ترقی کا تقاضا ہے۔
