I've read over 25 medical textbooks during medschool, post-grad life I was told to stick to the speciality-related books and medical journals. But I argue that once in a while, every doctor should explore literature outside medical jargon and read different genresβespecially those involving storytelling.
As humans we're wired for emotions and connect instantly with a story.
'When Breath Becomes Air' written by Dr. Paul Kalanithi is one such book. It not only offers a different perspective but also provides unique insights into the doctor-patient relationship, moral dilemmas andβmost importantlyβdeath. In short, it humbles you down as a medical professional.
This book is also a gentle segue into writing, which the world direly needs more ofβ especially from those in healthcare.
Highly recommended if you're in medicine, do give it a read! π
