Demonstrating its growing contribution to the advancement of clinical research in Pakistan, the Clinical Trials Unit (CTU) at Dr. Akbar Niazi Teaching Hospital (ANTH) successfully organized a Pre-Conference Workshop under the theme, "Beyond the Myths: Understanding Clinical Research in Practice," ahead of the prestigious Clinical Trials Summit of Pakistan 2026 scheduled to take place in August 2026.
This breakthrough event brought together visionary medical pioneers, regulatory specialists, and healthcare professionals to dismantle industry misconceptions and establish a robust framework for evidence-based medicine in the country. A large number of doctors, faculty, nursing, pharmacy, lab and other staff members of ANTH attended the workshop.
The sessions commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Areej Neyazi, Director ANTH, followed by introductory remarks from Dr. Babar Saeed, Director, CTU, National University Of Medical Sciences - NUMS.
Participants then explored key aspects of clinical research through engaging sessions. Dr. Usman Tareen, Deputy Director, ANTH-CTU, together with the ANTH CTU team and Dr. Asjid from IQVIA, debunked common myths surrounding clinical trials through interactive role plays and insightful presentations. The sessions were further enriched by Dr. Syeda Kiran Riaz, In-charge, CTU, Pakistan Institute Of Medical Sciences - PIMS, who provided a clear understanding of what clinical trials truly involve.
The momentum continued with Dr. Sundus Dadan, Lead CRA, Shifa Clinical Research Center, demystifying clinical trials versus compassionate use, followed by expert market insights from Mr. Talha Javed, DRK Pharma Solutions, on drug development and Dr. Saboora Waris, Associate Director CTU, Maroof International Hospital, on executing trials seamlessly. Bridging the gap to international excellence, Dr. Zenaida Reynoso Mojares, CMO, DRK Philippines, aligned local goals with global standards before Maj. Gen. (R) Prof. Dr. Muhammad Aslam, VC CUI/Islamabad Medical & Dental College, delivered a vote of thanks.
Participants widely appreciated the event, highlighting it as an incredibly informative, eye-opening, and insightful experience that bridged the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application. The day concluded on a high note with interactive role-plays and an engaging souvenir distribution ceremony.
