A "non-healing wound" on this patient's scalp turned out to be Squamous Cell Carcinoma.

The tumour was excised under local anaesthesia with a wide safety margin. The defect that remained was too large to stitch, so it was covered with a local flap and a specialised dressing. Healing has gone well.

Bed sores (also called pressure sores or pressure ulcers) often start as a patch of red, irritated skin and easy to dismiss. Left unchecked, the damage spreads inward, the tissue dies, and infection sets in. In this case, excised the dead tissue successfully and reconstructed the defect with a local flap, giving the area a real chance to heal.
