YDA JPMC LAUNCHES PROTEST AGAINST DELAYED STIPENDS AND UNDERPAYMENT OF POSTGRADUATE TRAINEES AND HOUSE OFFICERS

KARACHI, SINDH – October 8, 2026 – The Young Doctors Association (YDA) at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) has officially initiated a protest against the persistent delay in the release of stipends and the ongoing underpayment of the hospital’s House Officers and Postgraduate Trainees.

Despite working grueling hours to provide critical, round-the-clock healthcare services to the public at one of the country's largest tertiary care hospitals, these young doctors are being denied their basic financial rights. The prolonged withholding of earned stipends and the failure to provide equitable pay has created severe financial distress for the frontline medical staff holding the healthcare system together.

“Fair compensation is not a privilege; it is a fundamental right. Our doctors are working tirelessly to serve the community, yet their own livelihoods are being entirely neglected by the administration,” a representative for YDA JPMC stated.

The YDA is urgently calling upon the JPMC administration and the Sindh Health Department to immediately intervene. The association demands the prompt release of all pending funds and a permanent resolution to the underpayment of its trainees and officers.

While the young doctors of JPMC remain deeply committed to patient care and the oath they have taken, the YDA warns that continued negligence regarding their legitimate demands will leave them with no choice but to escalate their peaceful protest. The association appeals to the public, civil society, and the media to stand in solidarity with the medical community during this time.

PRESS RELEASE
Today, a meeting of the Young Doctors Association JPMC Unit was held with House Officers from different wards of JPMC and representatives of House Officers from different medical colleges.
The meeting discussed and finalized the future strategy for the protest scheduled for Thursday.
Young Doctors Association JPMC Unit will stand united and fight for the legitimate rights of doctors.
A protest will be held on Thursday at 12:30 PM in front of the Surgical Complex, OPD Tower.
All Medical Officers, House Officers, and Postgraduate Residents working at JPMC are requested to participate in the protest in full strength.
This protest is for your rights, your salaries, and your future.
Doctors working in Sindh, particularly at JPMC, are receiving lower salaries compared to doctors in the other three provinces.
JPMC doctors have also been deprived of their salaries for the last three months, causing serious financial difficulties for doctors and their families.
We demand fair salaries, timely monthly salary payments, and an increase in doctors’ salaries in line with other provinces.
We urge every Medical Officer, House Officer, and Postgraduate Resident to join us on Thursday at 12:30 PM.

Representatives from the Young Doctors Association (YDA) Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) and YDA Sindh successfully conducted emergency health checkups today for the returning Pakistani crew members. These individuals were recently rescued following the hijacking of Oil Tanker Honour 25 by Somali pirates.

A distinguished delegation officially received the crew members upon their arrival. The reception committee included the Governor of Sindh, Minister of Human Resources Mr. Saeed Ghani, Minister of Local Government Mr. Nasir Hussain, and Director General of Foreign Affairs Mr. Irfan Soomro.

Providing immediate frontline medical care, the expert assessment team included Dr. Jawad Samejo (Information Secretary, YDA Sindh), Dr. Imran Ali Arain (Spokesperson, YDA JPMC), Dr. Altaf Chachar (Vice President, YDA JPMC), and Dr. Sanober (Assistant Professor).

Prior to their arrival, JPMC had enacted strict emergency preparedness measures based on communication from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which indicated the injured crew and their families were expected to arrive at JPMC Emergency around 4:00 PM. To ensure immediate and comprehensive care, Orthopedics, General Surgery, and Neurosurgery teams were requested to remain present in the ER, with all on-call doctors and consultants required to be available on the floor.

During the initial assessment, the YDA medical team thoroughly evaluated the patients. The examinations revealed that several crew members had sustained various injuries to their upper and lower limbs. Fortunately, the medical team confirmed that none of the individuals suffered serious or life-threatening injuries.

Initial JPMC protocols outlined that all patients would be assessed and managed in the ER, with dischargeable patients being sent home with their families and others remaining admitted for further treatment. However, following the stabilization and primary medical clearance provided by the YDA team, the crew members were successfully shifted to a private hospital for continued care and observation.

YDA JPMC and YDA Sindh remain steadfast in their commitment to providing exceptional emergency care and commend the seamless coordination between government ministries, hospital administration, and healthcare workers during this national emergency.

تنخواہوں میں اضافے اور گزشتہ تین ماہ سے تنخواہوں کی عدم ادائیگی کے حوالے سے ینگ ڈاکٹرز ایسوسی ایشن جے پی ایم سی یونٹ کی آگاہی مہم جاری ہے۔

اس سلسلے میں صدر ینگ ڈاکٹرز ایسوسی ایشن جے پی ایم سی یونٹ ڈاکٹر شاہد اعوان نے اپنی ٹیم کے ہمراہ سرجیکل وارڈ نمبر 3 کا دورہ کیا اور ڈاکٹرز سے ملاقات کرکے ان کے مسائل سنے۔

ملاقات کے دوران ہاؤس آفیسرز، پی جی ڈاکٹرز، اسسٹنٹ پروفیسرز اور میڈیکل آفیسرز کی تنخواہیں دیگر صوبوں کے برابر کرنے اور گزشتہ تین ماہ کی واجب الادا تنخواہیں فوری جاری کرنے کا مطالبہ کیا گیا۔

انتظامیہ کی جانب سے تاحال تنخواہوں کی ادائیگی کے حوالے سے کوئی واضح یقین دہانی نہیں کرائی گئی کہ ڈاکٹرز کی تنخواہیں کب تک ان کے اکاؤنٹس میں منتقل ہوں گی۔

ینگ ڈاکٹرز ایسوسی ایشن جے پی ایم سی یونٹ کے مطابق، ڈاکٹرز کو درپیش مالی مشکلات اور مسلسل تاخیر کے باعث اب احتجاج پر مجبور ہونا پڑ رہا ہے۔ آنے والے احتجاج کے حوالے سے ڈاکٹرز کو آگاہ کیا گیا اور بھرپور شرکت کی اپیل کی گئی۔

ہمارا مطالبہ ہے کہ ڈاکٹرز کی واجب الادا تنخواہیں فوری جاری کی جائیں، تنخواہوں میں اضافہ کیا جائے اور دیگر صوبوں کے برابر معاوضہ یقینی بنایا جائے۔

اجلاس میں سندھ کے ڈاکٹرز کی تنخواہوں میں اضافے اور دیگر درپیش مسائل پر تفصیلی مشاورت کی گئی۔

ہاؤس آفیسرز، پی جی ڈاکٹرز، میڈیکل آفیسرز، اسسٹنٹ پروفیسرز، ایسوسی ایٹ پروفیسرز اور پروفیسرز کی تنخواہوں میں مناسب اضافہ اور پنجاب و خیبر پختونخوا کے ڈاکٹرز کے برابر تنخواہوں کا مطالبہ کیا گیا۔

ہاؤس آفیسرز اور پی جی ڈاکٹرز کو گزشتہ تین ماہ سے تنخواہوں کی عدم ادائیگی کے باعث شدید معاشی مشکلات کا سامنا ہے۔

تنخواہوں میں اضافے اور دیگر درپیش مسائل کے حل کے لیے تمام شعبہ جات کے سربراہان سے ملاقاتیں کی جائیں گی، تاکہ ان مسائل سے مؤثر انداز میں نمٹنے کے لیے ان کی رہنمائی، سرپرستی اور تعاون حاصل کیا جا سکے۔

آئندہ احتجاج کو منظم کرنے کے لیے وارڈ ٹو وارڈ رابطہ و آگاہی مہم شروع کی جائے گی۔

تمام ہاؤس آفیسرز اور پی جی ڈاکٹرز سے رابطہ کرکے انہیں مطالبات اور آئندہ کے احتجاجی لائحۂ عمل سے آگاہ کیا جائے گا۔

اگر اگلے ہفتے تک تین ماہ سے رکی ہوئی تنخواہوں کی ادائیگی نہ کی گئی تو ینگ ڈاکٹرز ایسوسی ایشن جے پی ایم سی یونٹ احتجاج کا اعلان کرنے پر مجبور ہوگا۔

ینگ ڈاکٹرز ایسوسی ایشن جے پی ایم سی یونٹ ڈاکٹرز کے جائز حقوق، تنخواہوں میں اضافے اور بروقت تنخواہوں کی ادائیگی کے لیے منظم اور پُرامن جدوجہد جاری رکھے گا۔
