Crohnโ€™s disease is a chronic inflammatory condition that can affect any part of the digestive tract, but most commonly affects the small intestine and large intestine (colon). If left untreated, it can lead to severe complications.

While the exact cause of Crohnโ€™s disease is not fully understood, several factors may contribute to its development, including:
โ€ข Abnormal immune response where the body attacks healthy intestinal tissue
โ€ข Genetic predisposition (family history may increase risk)
โ€ข Environmental factors may also contribute
โ€ข Cigarette smoking

๐’๐ฒ๐ฆ๐ฉ๐ญ๐จ๐ฆ๐ฌ
โ€ข Abdominal pain and cramping
โ€ข Persistent diarrhoea
โ€ข Fatigue and weakness
โ€ข Weight loss
โ€ข Reduced appetite
โ€ข Symptoms often come in flare-ups with periods of remission

If you are experiencing persistent digestive symptoms, early evaluation is important. Consult our expert ๐†๐š๐ฌ๐ญ๐ซ๐จ๐ž๐ง๐ญ๐ž๐ซ๐จ๐ฅ๐จ๐ ๐ข๐ฌ๐ญ๐ฌ for accurate diagnosis and personalised treatment.

๐•๐š๐ซ๐ข๐œ๐จ๐ฌ๐ž ๐ฏ๐ž๐ข๐ง๐ฌ are enlarged, swollen, and twisted veins that usually appear blue or dark purple, most commonly in the legs and feet. They develop when weakened or damaged valves in the veins allow blood to collect instead of flowing properly back to the heart.

Common symptoms may include:
โ€ข Aching or heavy legs
โ€ข Swelling in the feet or ankles
โ€ข Burning, throbbing, or cramping sensations
โ€ข Itching around the veins
โ€ข Visible bulging veins

Risk factors include ageing, prolonged standing, obesity, pregnancy, family history, and lack of physical activity.

For many people, varicose veins are mild and not dangerous. But in some cases, symptoms can gradually worsen and affect daily comfort and mobility.

The good news? Modern vascular treatments are minimally invasive and designed to improve both circulation and quality of life. If your legs feel heavy, painful, or swollen regularly, it may be time for a vascular evaluation. With advanced treatment options, our vascular experts provide targeted solutions with minimally invasive procedures:

โ€ข Endovenous Laser Ablation (EVLA) or Radio Frequency Ablation (RFA): A tiny laser fibre seals the diseased vein shut, safely rerouting blood flow to healthier veins.
โ€ข Ultrasound Sclerotherapy: A specialised medical foam is injected under ultrasound guidance to instantly close twisting branch veins, allowing it to safely be absorbed by the body.

A serious fall or road traffic accident can cause spinal cord injuries that may affect movement, sensation, and other vital body functions.

What many people may not realise is that the first few hours after a spinal injury are critical. Improper handling or delays in treatment can worsen the injury and increase the risk of long-term complications.

If a spinal injury is suspected:
โ€ข Avoid moving the patient unnecessarily
โ€ข Keep the neck and spine stable
โ€ข Seek emergency medical care immediately

While spinal cord injuries can be life-changing, timely medical care, surgery, rehabilitation, and physiotherapy can help many patients regain independence and improve quality of life.

Our multidisciplinary team including Neurosurgeons, Orthopaedic Surgeons, Neurologists, Physical Therapists, and Occupational Therapists works together to support patients throughout recovery.

If you have had an accident, rush to the AKUH Emergency Services, or book a consult with one of our spine specialists.
