From across the globe, the support of our donors is helping make state-of-the-art stroke care a reality in Pakistan.

Dr. Hisham Salahuddin shares the latest progress from the new Stroke Center at JPMC Karachi, featuring advanced biplane technology designed to perform complex brain procedures and save lives.

Every year, thousands of lives across Pakistan are impacted by stroke. In those crucial moments, immediate access to specialized care can mean the difference between permanent disability and full recovery. That is why the Pakistan Stroke Initiative, in partnership with Patients' Aid Foundation and JPMC, is building Pakistan's first public-sector Comprehensive Stroke Center—where every single procedure, scan, and bed is provided 100% free of charge for all patients.

Together, we are saving lives and shaping the future of healthcare in Pakistan.

Jul 30th marked an important milestone for the Pakistan Stroke Initiative.

We had the privilege of meeting with First Lady Aseefa Bhutto-Zardari to discuss our vision of establishing Sindh’s first public-sector Comprehensive Stroke Centre at JPMC in Karachi.

Stroke remains one of the leading causes of death and long-term disability in Pakistan, yet access to comprehensive stroke care is still limited for millions of people. Our goal is to build a center capable of providing advanced emergency stroke treatment for both ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke, neuro-interventional services, neurocritical care, rehabilitation, specialist training, research, and a province-wide tele-stroke network.

I’m grateful for the First Lady’s interest in this initiative and for her encouragement as we work toward improving stroke care across Pakistan. I am also pleased to have the opportunity to meet with Mushtaq Chhapra, Founding Director, Patients' Aid Foundation, and the Mayor of Karachi, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, whose encouragement and support for improving healthcare in our city are deeply appreciated.

Projects like this are never the work of one individual. They are built through the commitment of dedicated colleagues, partners, donors, and supporters who share the belief that every patient deserves access to timely, high-quality stroke care.

There is still much work ahead, but every meaningful journey begins with small steps. Looking forward to sharing more as this vision continues to take shape.

The first dedicated neuroendovascular suite. In a public-sector hospital. In Karachi ...

Every year, hundreds of thousands suffer strokes, aneurysms, and other devastating neurovascular emergencies.

For the vast majority — especially those who cannot afford private care — there is no interventional option. No biplane. No neuroendovascular suite. No place to go!

That was the gap the Pakistan Stroke Initiative (PSI) was built to close.

Not with a press release. Not with a conference. With a cath lab. With equipment. And with a team that simply refused to accept a world where this didn't exist.
