Hand , foot and mouth disease (HFMD )
Definition:: This is a viral infection which is highly infectious and contagious mainly affecting children under five years of age but can affects adults as well.
Cause : pathogens ( causative factor ) virus mainly Coxskie A16 and entero virus A71.
Pathogenesis ( Disease course) :: Fever followed by throat ulcers and neck swelling ( swollen lymph nodes) sometimes skin rashes and skin necrosis develops.
Treatment: No specific treatment except symptomatic, fever controlled by paracetamol and Ibuprofen and mouth ulcers by oral gels .
Prognosis: condition recovers in seven to ten days time.
