The National Institute of Child Health is pleased to announce that the recent discussions between the hospital administration and the postgraduate trainee doctors have concluded successfully. With the support and guidance of the Health Department, important decisions have been made to address the trainees' genuine concerns, paving the way for a more positive and collaborative working environment.
At the same time, the administration expresses its deep concern over the disruption to patient care during the seven-day strike. Approximately 7,000–8,000 patients were affected, with many experiencing delays in consultation, treatment, and access to essential medicines. Such interruptions to critical healthcare services are deeply regrettable.
NICH fully supports the resolution of legitimate concerns through dialogue and constructive engagement. However, patient care must remain uninterrupted under all circumstances. The health, safety, and well-being of our patients are our highest priority.
The administration is committed to maintaining open communication with all stakeholders and expects that any future concerns will be resolved through peaceful negotiations without compromising essential healthcare services.

The FCPS and MCPS Entrance Test was successfully conducted on 13th July 2026 at the National Institute of Child Health, Karachi.
The examination was organized in a well-managed, transparent, and disciplined environment, ensuring a smooth experience for all candidates. NICH remains committed to supporting excellence in postgraduate medical education by facilitating high-quality academic and professional assessments.

🔥 Visit of Bahria Town Fire Fighting Department to NICH
On the directions of the Executive Director, NICH, Professor Dr. Nasir Saleem Saddal, the Chief Fire Officer of Bahria Town Fire Fighting Department, Mr. Adil Mahmood, visited the National Institute of Child Health, Karachi, and held a productive meeting with Deputy Director, Dr. Muhammad Yaqoob, to discuss strengthening fire safety and emergency preparedness across the hospital.
During the meeting, it was agreed that Fire Safety Training Sessions, Fire Drills, and Awareness Seminars will soon be conducted at NICH. These activities will equip doctors, nurses, paramedical staff, security personnel, hospital employees, and attendants with essential knowledge and practical skills in fire prevention, emergency response, evacuation procedures, and the proper use of firefighting equipment.
This collaborative initiative reflects NICH's commitment to enhancing fire safety standards, minimizing the risk of fire-related incidents, protecting lives and property, and ensuring a safer healthcare environment for patients, attendants, and staff.

National Nutrition Surveillance System (NNSS) Training 2026
A two-day training on the National Nutrition Surveillance System (NNSS) was successfully organized at the National Institute of Child Health (NICH), Karachi, in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) Pakistan and the Health Department, Government of Sindh.
The training brought together Lady Health Visitors (LHVs), Community Health Workers (CHWs), and Nurses to strengthen their knowledge and practical skills in nutrition surveillance, growth monitoring, data collection, and reporting. Participants actively engaged in interactive sessions and practical exercises, enhancing their capacity to identify and address nutrition-related challenges within their communities.
This collaborative initiative reflects our shared commitment to improving maternal and child nutrition through accurate surveillance, timely interventions, and a stronger primary healthcare system. We sincerely thank all the trainers, participants, WHO Pakistan, and the Health Department, Government of Sindh, for making this training a great success.

🌷 Senior Colleagues Farewell & Staff Appreciation Ceremony Successfully Held at NICH Radiology Department 🌷

The Radiology Department, National Institute of Child Health, Karachi, successfully organized a heartfelt Senior Colleagues Farewell and Staff Appreciation Ceremony on 22 June 2026 at the First Floor Auditorium. The event was a memorable occasion dedicated to honoring the remarkable service, dedication, and invaluable contributions of our respected colleagues Mr. Izhar ul Hasan, Mr. A. Haseeb Khan, Mr. Jawed Rehman, Mr. Meer Nazir, and Mr. Ghulam Mustafa on the occasion of their retirement.

Faculty members, staff, and colleagues gathered to celebrate their achievements, share cherished memories, and express gratitude for their years of commitment to patient care and departmental excellence. 🦠 Mini Symposium on Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Successfully Conducted
The Department of Pediatric Infectious Diseases, National Institute of Child Health (NICH), Karachi, successfully conducted a practical-based Mini Symposium on Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) on 22 June 2026 at the NICH Auditorium.
The session featured informative presentations by Dr. Wajid Hussain and Ms. Safia Bibi, focusing on evidence-based infection prevention measures and healthcare worker safety in accordance with international standards and JCI requirements.
The symposium witnessed excellent participation from faculty members, doctors, nurses, residents, and students, who actively engaged in the practical demonstrations and discussions. The interactive session strengthened participants’ knowledge and reinforced the importance of maintaining a safe healthcare environment.
The activity was successfully organized under the coordination of Dr. Mehboob Nonari, Dr. Shabana, Dr. Sadia, Mr. Aashiq Hussain, and Mr. Sakhi, whose efforts contributed greatly to the success of the event.

🌿 Awareness Session Successfully Conducted on Allergic Rhinitis & Awareness Walk 🌿
The Medical Unit-I, Pediatric Pulmonology Unit of the National Institute of Child Health (NICH), Karachi, successfully conducted an educational session titled “Allergic Rhinitis: Understanding Triggers, Symptoms, and Management” on 18th June 2026 at the Main Auditorium Hall, NICH. The program was followed by an awareness walk to emphasize the importance of early recognition, prevention, and appropriate management of allergic rhinitis.
The session aimed to enhance awareness among patients, families, students, and healthcare professionals regarding common allergens, early recognition of symptoms, preventive strategies, and evidence-based management of allergic rhinitis. Insightful presentations and expert discussions were delivered by Prof. Sultan Mustafa, with valuable contributions from Prof. Khalid Mahmood A. Khan and Prof. M. Ashfaq, while Dr. Khatidja Ally moderated the session.
The interactive program and awareness walk highlighted that timely diagnosis and proper management of allergic rhinitis can significantly improve quality of life and help prevent complications such as asthma and sinus disease. Participants actively engaged in discussions and joined the awareness walk, reaffirming the importance of continuous health education and community engagement in promoting better respiratory health.

Karachi, June 16, 2026: Chairperson Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) Senator Rubina Khalid, Sindh Health Minister Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho, Executive Director NICH, representatives of the World Health Organization (WHO) and Gavi inaugurated the Nutrition Stabilization Centre and Model EPI Centre at the National Institute of Child Health (NICH), Karachi, under the Benazir Nashonuma Programme.

The Nutrition Stabilization Centre has been established to provide specialized care and treatment for children suffering from moderate and severe acute malnutrition, while the Model EPI Centre aims to strengthen immunization services and improve child health outcomes. The initiative reflects the collective commitment of the Government of Pakistan, Government of Sindh, WHO, development partners, and NICH to combat child malnutrition and enhance healthcare services for vulnerable children and families.

Alhamdulillah, the workshop on “Childhood Nephrotic Syndrome” organized by the Department of Pediatric Nephrology, NICH, under the leadership of Dr. Sadaf Asim, was successfully conducted.
We are highly grateful to Professor Rajendra Bhimma from Durban, South Africa, for delivering an informative and insightful session. The workshop provided valuable knowledge and learning opportunities for healthcare professionals and participants.
