😳👁️🦷 Doctors used her own tooth… to help her see again
A 75-year-old woman, Gail Lane, who had been blind for 10 years, regained her vision through a rare procedure called Osteo-odonto-keratoprosthesis (OOKP), often known as “tooth-in-eye” surgery.
Instead of using artificial materials, doctors used her own tooth and bone to hold a tiny lens — reducing the risk of rejection.
Here’s how it worked:
👉 A healthy tooth was removed
👉 A small lens was inserted into it
👉 The tooth was placed in her cheek for months to develop blood supply
👉 Then it was implanted into her eye
Gail had lost her sight due to an autoimmune condition that severely damaged her eyes.
After the surgery, her vision slowly returned — first light, then colors, then movement.
After 10 years in darkness…
she could see again.
Because sometimes, the most incredible breakthroughs don’t come from machines—
they come from the human body itself. 👀✨
