🌿 Myth vs Fact: Mental Illness and Islam
Many people believe that mental illness is a punishment from Allah. This is a misconception that can prevent individuals from seeking the help they need.
Islam teaches us that illness, whether physical or mental, is not a punishment. Rather, it is a test through which Allah grants opportunities for patience, healing, and spiritual growth. Our faith encourages us to seek treatment, support those who are struggling, and place our trust in Allah while taking the necessary means for recovery.
As healthcare professionals and as a community, let us replace stigma with understanding, judgment with compassion, and silence with support. Mental health conditions are medical illnesses that deserve timely care, empathy, and evidence-based treatment.
> "And do not lose hope in the mercy of Allah."
(Surah Yusuf 12:87)
If you or someone you know is experiencing emotional or psychological distress, remember that seeking professional help is a sign of wisdom and strength, not weakness.
