Two x-rays are seen here. One is a KUB control plain x-ray abdomen and second one is an excretory urography (IVP) taken soon after the control one. Carefully looking an opacity is seen near the upper part of the right sacroiliac joint. The opacity is hard to see because of nearby bony pelvis and sacroiliac joint.The opacity is marked. Excretory urography shows obstruction of contrast material and flow of urine at the site of impacted stone on the right side causing hydroureter and hydronephrosis. Compare right ureter and right kidney with the left one for learning.

This is the appearance of neurogenic bladder- pine tree appearance. Neurogenic bladder refers to a group of bladder and urinary problems that occurs when damage to nervous system disrupts normal bladder function. Urinary bladder may be overactive or underactive depending on what nerve pathway is effected.This appearance is not specific to neurogenic bladder. The appearance can also occur in bladder neck obstruction due to marked trabeculations.

This excretory urography ( old term IVP intravenous pyelography) shows left kidney having two pelvis and two ureters. This is a rare anatomical variation, Two ureters may continue independently to join bladder with two ureterovesical junctions or they may unite and continue as a single unit with one ureterovesical junction.
