We are thrilled to share a new publication, ‘From Estimated Targets to Verified Coverage: Implementation of a Community Health Worker-Based Tracking Intervention to Address Denominator Inaccuracies in High-Risk Urban Settings of Balochistan, Pakistan’, in the journal Vaccines 2026, Volume 14, Issue 3, 262.

The article discusses the effectiveness of integrating a CHW-based household tracking tool within the existing PEI–EPI systems in three low-performing union councils in Quetta, Balochistan.

Quetta faces the challenge of low vaccination coverage. Peri-urban and informal settlements face high mobility, security risks, and socio-economic inequities, which hinder access and result in a disproportionate concentration of zero-dose children. Integrating CHW-based tracking with dynamic denominator verification enhances routine immunization, microplanning, equity, and operational performance in high-risk LMIC urban settings.

PHC Global is implementing the “Implementation of Community Health Workers Model” under the Punjab Human Capital Investment Project (PHCIP) in collaboration with the Health Information & Service Delivery Unit in Dera Ghazi Khan, Muzaffargarh, Rahim Yar Khan, and Rajanpur.

The Community Health Inspector (CHI) Pilot Project aims to strengthen community-based primary healthcare by deploying a trained community health workforce supported by digital reporting tools, medical kits, and a pay-for-performance service model. Each Community Health Supervisor (CHS) oversees 25–30 CHIs, enabling outreach to up to 600 households per CHI within assigned union councils, significantly expanding access to primary healthcare at the doorstep.

As part of the service delivery phase, more than 500 CHIs visit households to provide basic preventive and screening services. They conduct antenatal care and postnatal care follow-ups, nutritional assessment of children, counsel about family planning, screen for non-communicable diseases, and follow up on immunization under the Expanded Programme on Immunization.

In many areas, families were initially hesitant about the new service. However, once CHIs explained their purpose and conducted basic screenings such as Hb testing and pregnancy screening, communities responded positively. Mothers particularly appreciated receiving health counselling and screening services at their doorstep, which reduces the need for frequent facility visits.

PHC Global hosted the provincial dissemination event for the Zero Dose Costing Study — The Economic Analysis to Determine the Cost of Reaching Zero-Dose Children through Different Strategies in Pakistan conducted in partnership with ThinkWell Global (Health System Insights) across Punjab and Sindh.

Dr. Ali Turab, Director Global Health along with his team members Tahmeena Ali Hassan, Manager Research, and Ahsan Nazir, Research Associate, presented the project findings revealing Pakistan has approximately 400,000 zero-dose children among the highest burdens globally.

The event brought together colleagues from EPI, WHO, PEI, academic researchers, and partners, including ACASUS, creating a valuable platform to share evidence on the cost of reaching a zero-dose child.

We were honoured to have Dr. Khalil Ullah (Deputy Director, EPI Sindh) and Dr. Kelash (S.F.S.O, EOC Sindh) as our keynote speakers. Sincere thanks to all attendees: Attaullah Baig (WHO), Mr. Nootash Mahmood (ACASUS), Dr. Gulzar Ali Tonio, Dr. Altaf Hussain, Dr. Uzair Farooqi, Javeria Mansoor, Dr. Shiza Khalid, and M. Siddique.

According to a study by WHO, approximately one million people die by su***de each year, or about one life lost every 40 seconds. As the largest continent in the World, Asia accounts for about 60% of World su***des.

Dr. M. Imran Khan, Director Strategy and Partnerships, attended the Zero Su***de International Asia Alliance Inaugural Assembly held in Kathmandu, Nepal.

The two-day assembly brought together national representatives from Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Philippines, Pakistan, Thailand, and Malaysia, who participated in person to engage in high-level dialogue, strategic planning, and collaborative learning to advance the Zero Su***de framework within their respective health and policy ecosystems. The meeting marked a significant milestone in strengthening regional commitment to comprehensive and evidence-based su***de prevention systems across Asia.

Zero Su***de International is a global initiative working to transform health systems, organizations, and communities so that su***de prevention is a core responsibility of care.

Snippets from the panel discussion ‘Evidence to action: Preventing Su***des in Youth: Integrating Youth Mental Health into PHC in Low-Resource Settings’ organized at the Brain and Mind (BMI) International Conference 2025.

The panel featured mental health experts, researchers, policymakers, and community leaders to address local and international programs initiated for the prevention of su***des in youth.

Anamta Ghur, Manager Research, talked about our project Dareecha conducted in district Ghizer, Gilgit Baltistan, where we screened school-going youth for suicidal ideations. At risk students were referred for tele-therapy sessions, and those who took more than 4 sessions demonstrated a reduction in risk. She discussed the use of art-based methods such as body mapping, meditation, and yarn circles that were used to create awareness, motivation, and capacity to understand the reasons behind suicidal ideation and learn how to encourage help-seeking behaviors.

Overall, the panel provided a great platform to discuss policy initiatives to enhance access to mental and brain health services in Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs).

We are pleased to announce our partnership in the Brain and Mind (BMI) International Conference 2025, held from 3rd to 5th November 2025 at the Aga Khan University. The conference provided a platform to showcase cutting-edge research, interventions, innovations, and culturally grounded solutions in mental and brain health.

Innovations ranging from AI-driven tools to low-cost digital platforms and community co-designed interventions were presented to start conversations around exploring potential for scaling while maintaining global best practices.

The themes covered distress caused by climate change, migration, socio-economic instability, connection between noncommunicable diseases (NCD) and brain health, the link between gut-brain health, digital mental health, and su***de prevention in youth.

The conference strengthened collaborations among community stakeholders, formal and informal health care service providers, researchers, and policymakers by engaging through theatre performances, film screenings, presentations, and panel discussions.
