A female cat was presented to Animal Medical Center with vaginal bleeding and prolonged labour.
🔴 Ultrasound revealed multiple dead fetuses inside the uterus.
⚠️ An immediate C-section was strongly advised, but the owner initially decided not to proceed.
Two days later, the cat returned in a critical, life-threatening condition.
During surgery, we found a severely compromised/twisted uterus with dead fetuses, along with severe systemic deterioration due to prolonged labour and fetal death.
🩺 Emergency surgery was performed despite the critical condition, with intensive supportive treatment to save the mother's life.
💔 This case is a reminder that difficult or prolonged labour is an emergency—not something to wait and watch.
⚠️ SEEK VETERINARY CARE IMMEDIATELY IF YOUR CAT:
• Has been in labour for an unusually long time
• Is actively straining without delivering a kitten
• Has vaginal bleeding or abnormal discharge
• Becomes weak, depressed, or stops eating
• Has a dead/stuck kitten suspected inside
• Suddenly develops fever, pain, or collapse
🐾 Early diagnosis and timely intervention can save the mother and her kittens.
DON’T WAIT. DON’T IGNORE PROLONGED LABOUR.
