This September, we’re supporting Polycystic O***y syndrome (PCOS) Awareness Month.
Polycystic O***y syndrome (PCOS) is a common condition caused by a hormone imbalance. Symptoms vary from woman to woman and can include irregular periods, increased body hair, acne and may affect fertility.
Many women with PCOS successfully manage their symptoms and long-term health risks without medical intervention. Some women may need to see a gynaecologist.
As of June 2025, more than 580,000 women and people were still waiting for gynaecology care in England - many with conditions like PCOS.
As we mark PCOS Awareness Month, we’re supporting the call for greater action, awareness, and equity in healthcare.
The College is also urging the Government to refresh the Women’s Health Strategy for England. A key part of this must be a renewed focus on reducing gynaecology waiting lists and ensuring access to high-quality, integrated women’s health services for all.
