I am pleased to share that I recently conducted a 4-day workshop on “Statistical Analysis using SPSS” for the faculty at the Health Sciences Campus of Bahria University, Karachi.

This workshop was specifically designed to strengthen faculty capacity in research methodology and data analysis. Over the four days, we covered essential areas including data management, descriptive and inferential statistics, correlation, regression analysis, and interpretation of results using SPSS.

I sincerely appreciate the support of the administration and the engagement of all participants in making this workshop a valuable learning experience.

Optometrists are vital to Pakistan’s eye care system, serving as primary providers who detect, manage, and prevent vision and eye problems.

They help reduce avoidable blindness through early diagnosis and referral, support public health via screenings and awareness, and ease the burden on ophthalmologists.

By improving vision, they enhance education, productivity, and quality of life. Strengthening optometry services is therefore essential for better health outcomes and socioeconomic development in Pakistan.

Physical inactivity is now the 4th leading global cause of death.

A new review in Trends in Endocrinology & Metabolism shows bed rest alone can trigger insulin resistance, lower VO2max, raise blood pressure, and accelerate muscle loss.

The most inactive people have a 1.75x higher CVD risk and 1.4x higher dementia risk.

Movement is not optional in biology.

The fastest way to lose motivation is to link your self-worth to outcomes. External failure becomes internal failure. Your brain then learns to avoid all risk. The cycle continues.

Protect Your Eyes from Smog

1. Minimize your time outdoors.
2. Avoid traveling in open vehicles.
3. When you're in an open environment, don't forget to wear protective glasses or sunglasses.
4. Avoid wearing contact lenses outdoors; wear your prescription glasses instead.
5. Never rub your eyes.
6. Use lubricating eye drops and cool compresses to alleviate discomfort and other symptoms caused by smog.
7. If you develop moderate to severe symptoms, visit your optometrist as soon as possible.

This patient had a history of a brain tumor which caused the limitation in the movement of his right eye. This made his vision diplopic in primary gaze and he was forced to chin up for having single vision straight ahead. This posture was painful for his neck and he lost his confidence because of his bad cosmetic appearance. With the help of prismatic glasses, we corrected his head posture which relieved his neck pain and gave him a confidence boost.
