Osteo-Odonto-Keratoprosthesis (OOKP) is a complex surgical procedure used to restore vision in patients with severe corneal blindness who are not suitable candidates for traditional corneal transplants. The technique involves using the patient’s own tooth and surrounding bone (usually a canine tooth) to support an artificial corneal implant. The tooth-bone lamina is implanted into the cheek for several months to develop a blood supply, then later inserted into the eye with the optical cylinder to allow light to enter. OOKP is considered a last-resort treatment but has shown remarkable success in restoring vision in cases where other methods have failed.
