We treat humans, not just bodies.

Use their name. Explain. Listen. Make them comfortable. Talk to unresponsive patients, they might hear you. Empathize. Make eye contact. Hold their hand. Stifle the judgement. Recognize that in our short time with patients, we can't possibly understand the events that have led them to this place in life.

Be kind - it's almost always easier and less regrettable than being an angry arrogant.

As we step into the new year - where years are only arbitrary containers meant to calibrate eternity into measurable units - I wish for a more free mind, more valuable contributions to eternity, and a more content heart.
