When you’re in pain, exercise might be the last thing you want to do. But the right movement can sometimes be an important part of recovery.
Avoiding movement completely can lead to stiffness, reduced strength, and decreased mobility. Depending on the cause of your pain, a physiotherapist may recommend specific exercises to gradually improve strength, flexibility, balance, and movement.
But that doesn’t mean “push through the pain.” The type, intensity, and timing of exercise should be appropriate for your condition.
A physiotherapy assessment can help determine what movements are suitable for you and what should be avoided.
Movement can be part of the solution — when it’s the right movement.
